|chatterbox||My history may be off, but wasn't news coverage of our men and women overseas less censored and more in depth during the World Wars? What the hell happened that we would rather sit in front of our TVs crying over someone who damaged his or herself rather than a man or woman in uniform who's life is altered because they have lost a limb and friends?|

|JCH841||Watching the Today show as I type this (Thursday morning 2/16) and an informal poll they're running shows 87% of the responders are against it.|

there is a reason why I hardly ever watch the news now... if its not a celebrity its the next murder case...
How bout some real news please?

The wierd thing is that in a different article the Gov said that he was doing it because she was a "daughter of New Jersey" and for the fallen heroes for that week, or month, I can't remember which. That just pissed me off even more because now he's really making a true mockery of it.
I realize that nothing can be done about it and NJ will still fly the flags and half staff, but it's still infuriating.

Not surprised at all, especially from New Jersey.
Does it suck? Yes. Can anything be done about it? Doubtful...I've lost all faith in the average American lately.

This has been all over Facebook, and as hard as I try to be mad, shocked, etc.. I'm not.
I'm just annoyed. Nothing this country's government does (be it state or federal) surprises me anymore. Most in our gov't don't understand the sacrifices us men and women in uniform make. And that's largely in part to the fact that most people in our gov't have never served a day in their life. So how could they understand? All those people know is what they see on tv, and well.. what they see on tv is a 30 second blip about another soldier being killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. And immediately following that, a 10 minute block of coverage for a celebrity who died. And after that? More and more coverage for said celebrity that lasts weeks, if not months. This country as a whole is up. And the shit that takes place no longer surprises me. I lost all hope after the Senate or House or whoever it was shot down the bill to give free healthcare to the 9/11 relief workers. That's when I said it.
Our country will burn one day.. and who will we have to thank for it? Ourselves.

|JCH841||Point taken. I was joking about NJ, but you're right, half mast is for heroes.|
