My SPI motor still goes
I made it from 124k to 139k, driving the piss out of it (few 100+ MPH runs). Now I turned the keys over to a family man, should last even longer.

Mine is an IB5.
Change out your trans oil with a really good one like Redline. It knocked out the noise in my Maserati and Mazda MTs.

Mine just turned 137,000 knock on wood no valve seat issue. Also, I bought it about a month ago, I had to do a full ignition refresh (coil and all) and it needs a few motor mounts. Running 5w40 Chevron Delo oil and no clue if T belt has been done.
That being said, I'm going to run it and hope it don't pop before the first of the year. That's when I'm going Zetec. But it runs excellent and gets great gas mileage. Just slow as balls.

I made it to 240,000 miles before one of the valves decided to hang out with the piston.
Bought it for $400 at 190,000 miles so I guess I couldn't complain too much.

I made it to 164K before I swapped the head to valve symptoms. I'm at 165K now.
Great little car. I wouldn't hesitate to jump in it and drive to California right now in it.

Mine has just under 83,000 now, and no dropped valve seat. I don't expect it to go anytime soon either, since I just had larger ones put in and pressed by a machine shop. Had the timing belt and tensioner done while they were in there too (my mechanic's). A new complete head would have been good peace of mind as well.
It's up for sale now, but if it doesn't sell, I'm sure the wife and I would be happy to keep driving it. She is set on it never dropping, since they pressed in larger valve seats. Not so sure...since it looks like a few SPI owners have done what I've done, and the problem still happened to them? Am I understanding that right?
Or am I just getting the wife all worried and in a panic for no reason?
