I will say that when I switched from 87 to 91, it noticed that the engine is smoother. I have the FSWerks RMM so I can feel the engine a bit more than stock and with 87, it was kind of "lumpy" i guess. I noticed it when sitting at a stoplight in 95 degree Kansas summer weather. It was like the engine kind of pulsed every 5-15 seconds or so. When I switched to premium (from QuikTrip, a Tier One gas brand), it cleared right up. Additionally, since I'm getting a tune, I figured the higher octane gas would be worth it.

|Ti/12||Here in Minnesota the gas is E10 and my 2012 didn't run "right" on 87, so i tried mid grade 89 and it ran better, finally for the last 2 years I have been running 91 and the better performance is very noticeable; better fuel economy, smoother running, and better throttle response. This improvement convinced me to do the intake, exhaust, and tuning mods I currently have. Now I have even more Zoom-Zoom!|

I'm definitely feeling a placebo/YMMV effect, so there appears in my three days of driving on 91 that there is a measurable impact, although not sure just yet if it's worth the constant upcharge at the pump.

Yeah, I don't find any performance advantages of 91 octane E0 vs 91 octane E10. 93 octane E10 performs very well in my car.
Fuel mileage is better with E0, but it's also more expensive. I don't know if the fuel mileage improvement is enough to offset the increased expense.
I buy E0, but only for outdoor power equipment due to storage needs. The only clear disadvantage I see with E10 is water absorption over time, which is not an issue with my car since fuel is refreshed at least every two weeks.

|TboneZX3||Columbia also has Hyvee stations with E0, and KC has a few Quiktrips with E0. I guess I'm lucky to have a single E0 91 octane pump in the Cape area.|

The Greater St. Louis Area is E-10 only, no matter what grade, so I always make sure to fill up at Gasper's Travel Plaza (Shell) in Kingdom City when I'm visiting Columbia or Kansas City - E-0 goodness! So I have to drive ~100 miles to get better performance AND mileage.
I'm confident we don't get a choice because no one who cared even a little about performance would ever choose E-10.

Wow, I haven't heard about "Ethyl" since back when unleaded was phased in and we got the small nozzles so only the unleaded ones would fit in the new capped filler tubes.
Assume the cavedog meant non-ethyl as shorthand for ethanol, referring to alcohol content.
