|ThoR294||Mr2764, unfortunately, Ford doesn't give 2 shits that you won't buy a Ford anymore. My girlfriends family has 4 Fords in their driveway and this is by far THE LAST ONE they will buy. She even said that while talking to one of the Ford reps and he pretty much brushed it off and said go ahead buy another vehicle. This car is a ******g joke and I'm about to fix her 03 focus and have her drive that instead of the 14 because of how terrible it drives. When she can get out of this heap we will be looking at anything BUT a Ford product. Good for me because I'm a Chevy guy at heart, but god damn this is terrible.|

WHAT IS YOUR VEHICLE SALES OR SERVICE ISSUE?:I am currently an owner of a 2013 Ford Focus equipped with the Dual Clutch Power Shift transmission. This vehicle has experienced all the typical issues associated with this transmission since taking ownership (shifting problems, shuddering, poor downshifts, jerking and rolling backwards). This vehicle has been in for service twice and the clutch packs were replaced both times. Within weeks of the fix, the vehicle was back to exhibiting the same behavior. The dealer explained that there is no fix for this and I will have to live with the issue. Ford does not have a solution to the problem and will only keep replacing clutch packs as needed. I feel that my only option is to wait long enough until I can afford to get out of the vehicle loan and get another car. Given that there is no real fix for this issue, I am hesitant to waste any more time having the clutch packs replaced again. I feel that I was knowingly sold a defective product.
WHAT ACTION HAS YOUR DEALER TAKEN TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE?:They have replaced the clutch packs in the transmission on multiple occasions. There is nothing more they can do to resolve this issue. I cannot afford to waste any more of my precious time bringing the vehicle to the dealer for a repair that will not work. You knowingly sold me a defective product.
WHAT ASSISTANCE ARE YOU SEEKING FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY?:Nothing. You can only replace the defective parts with other defective parts. I'm writing to let you know that I regret purchasing a Ford and will never purchase or recommend a Ford vehicle to anyone based on my experience with owning this vehicle. As a person that grew up in a "Ford" family, I cannot convey my disappointment with the car and with Ford.

Thanks for getting back with me. Unfortunately the Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) can only replace the defective parts with another defective part. Ford has not produced a replacement part that actually fixes the issue. Their only solution is to replace the defective clutch pack with the same defective clutch pack resulting in the very same symptoms and drive-ability issues. Given that fact, tell me how Ford can restore my faith in a product that cannot be fixed? In addition, please explain to me how Ford can sell a car with a known defect? Unfortunately there is no solution here.
Given the above problem, please explain to me a potential situation in which my faith in your products could be restored?

Status update: Got the car back late Friday afternoon, 31JUL. Even before pulling out of the dealership parking lot the car felt different. The steering was tighter, which I liked, and the transmission was quieter. So far we have just did some around town trips, nothing to put any real heat into or load onto the transmission. I did run it in sport mode a few time and only once did it shift by itself from 3-4 before getting anywhere near the red line. This was one of the issues we noted during turn in. The other thing that is gone is the low speed/turn shudder and that lag most of us feel in the transmission during turning. Another thing that was noticed was that pick up from the line has improved greatly. Can't remember the last time the car performed this well.
According to the AV Ford rep the input shafts were replaced, clutches were cleaned along with the replacement of the TPM.
I will say the AV FORD customer service rep was very helpful and did a good job of keeping me informed along the way as did our regional customer service rep. So props to Ford, at least on this level, for their customer service and ensuring this problem is getting corrected.

I haven't been back here in quite awhile -- after hearing the noise again, I contacted my Ford dealership and they advised me to wait another 1,000 miles for the "clutch break-in period." They did offer to drive around with me once again if I truly wanted it, but mentioned that Ford wouldn't likely do anything to the transmission again until 1,000 miles had passed. Surprisingly, once I hit 500 more miles, I didn't experience the noise any longer. Unfortunately, now, as I near 16,000 miles, I'm hearing it again and I'm experiencing the "jolt" as I did before. It's not nearly as bad, but this is how everything started before.
I did test-drive an Escape and a Jeep Compass (which has horrible reliability reviews, but was very comfortable to sit in -- I won't buy one due to that, though) last weekend. I was convinced I'd be trading in my Focus and getting into an SUV. However, after doing the math and realizing that I only have one year left on my payments ($4,000), I believe the most practical thing to do is to keep my car until my warranty runs out (4 more years -- I purchased the 6 year extended warranty). Or, at least until I have my student loan paid off in 1.5 years. Many people have told me that I should love the car that I drive and to not think twice about jumping into another loan, but I just can't stomach that. Plus, once I hit 35 mph, I love my Focus. My plast-dipping my wheels today is an effort to make my car feel "new" again, so perhaps I'll get the itch to buy an SUV out of my head. It will be nice to be able to pay off some student loan debt once my car is paid off. This is what I'm telling myself. ;)
I do suspect that I'll need to bring it in again within the next few weeks. It's driving much more smoothly than it did the first time that I had issues, but that rattling/grinding noise that I hear shouldn't be happening -- period. It's not consistent, though, but I can pretty much replicate it at least once or twice during a start-to-stop drive when I accelerate at lower speeds.

I was also surprised that you did not get a reply to your request for guidance from strix with advice to sell it and never look back. (Nor from mr_cassandra suggesting that you get in touch with the Meagan.)

|Troyftw||I took my car in last month and the dealership "ordered my clutch pack" but now I am being told that it is on an "indefinite backorder" and they can't tell me when they will have the replacement part. My car has gotten pretty bad to the point that it almost stalls when I take off from a stop. I am not sure how much longer I can wait...|

|2013FocusTitanium||Just got the word from my dealer they are going to replace my clutch for a second time - but they are back ordered. They have at least 10 similar customers in line ahead of me and Ford is not giving an ETA for when clutches will become available. :(((|
