My 2009 Ford Focus is a Black lemon on 4 wheels

I have had a problem similar on and off for the past year with my 2009 ford focus. It started around 30,000 miles and has continued for the past two years. I've had it in the dealership twice, but they could never reproduce it or find anything wrong with it. Last week the stupid wrench light came on and stayed on for four hours. Was hoping that finally something broke but no such luck. Turning the key off/on reset the code. No PCM codes were ever recorded in the computer. Complained to the dealership and they put on a new throttle body and motor servo assembly. This car never limps though, it only jerks as it is a 5 speed manual. Three days after getting it back from the dealership, the car is exhibiting the same problem. Here is a clue to the problem -- when it is super humid, rainy, snowy or slick out the car acts shows this behavior and sometimes the wrench light comes on.
My extended warranty will be ending soon and need to have this problem fixed. Did I mention I bought this car "A Plan" as well? The dealership that installed the new throttle body when I took it back recommended that I take it to another Ford dealer because there was nothing they could do further to help me. Also had to replace the clutch pedal spring four times and the master/slave cylinder at about 20k miles. I still have a slow leak in the hydraulic clutch system as well. When it's cold out, the car will creep forward in neutral on it's own. If any Ford CSRs are reading this out there, this should become a case study of how not to treat your A plan customers. For those of you not familiar with A plan, it's Ford's employee purchase plan.

The first time we did what the owners book said and turned the car off and called for a tow truck. The tow truck arrives, actually it was a flat bed carrier, and parked down hill from our car. I give the keys to the driver and the car starts right up and the wrench light was off. Wonderful. The dealer checks the car over, finds no problems, no codes. Test drives just fine. It's still under warranty so it cost me nothing but lost time.

Today it happened again after pulling away from a traffic light. Engine starts missing, No power. Wrench light is on. I turn the car off then restarted it. Once again, it is running fine and the light is off.

I'm a little worried about letting her drive it to work. She passes through some interesting parts of our wonderful city and they are not areas you would like to break down in.

Where do i go from here? The dealer said if there is no trouble code in the computer there isn't much they can do.

The car is a 2009 Focus SES.

I am also having this same issue, again. I replaced my throttle body about a year ago because of this. Now it is happening again. Buying a new throttle body every couple years is utterly ridiculous. Does anyone know what is actually causing the tps to fail.

2010 Focus SE

I am having the problem with the wrench light coming on. This problem is ridiculous.

There are 18,000 miles on the car, and it is 2 months out of 3 year warranty.

I have owned this car for 6 months, and the wrench light has come on at least 30 times. Each & every time i turn the car off, turn it back on again, and away I drive.

Last night on a highway under construction, the wrench light came on 13 times!!!

The car is currently at the dealership. If an Ford Service Rep could PM me regarding this problem, i would appreciate it.

Gabe2010SE I had a wrench light come on while driving about a year ago when I was still working at the dealership.
I had the TSB performed a couple of days later, even though the symptom didn't re-occur, hoping that the new part might be updated and not have the same issue come back

DSLGOD Needles to say I have this problem and I'm not even going explain cause I don't want to be Repiticious. My girlfriend owns a 08 focus and I believe if I'm not mistaken this is the second time it has happened. I'm not a Ford fan at all I've had GM cars all my life and had not many problems with them. I just wanted to post so that all would know our 08 focus SES has same issue and the customer Service would see that there is a pattern and fix there issues before they sell the cars. I'm going to YouTube or google for the fix myself and if it seems easy I'm going to to the work myself if not mechanic will. I'm inclined but these new cars these days are getting very complicated. Switches and bulbs and stuff. Ok being sarcastic but good luck to all on your repairs!

Glad to see somethings been done about this problem since it seems to be affecting so many people.

ktryton My 2011 Fiesta also has what seems to be the SAME issue. It has been back to the dealer no less than 6 times for the wrench light coming on and going into limp mode. The dealer first couldn't find a code, then after getting a code (the next time the light came on a couple weeks later) replaced parts that did not fix it. They are working on the problem but can't get it right. We are thinking that maybe we need to look into the lemon law on this as the car had less than 36000 miles on it when the problem started and we have had it in the shop 6 times related to this same problem and it is in no better shape today then the first time we took it in. We have 4 Fords right now and have always bought Fords but a issue like this makes you want to look into other options.

Focus wrench light and chugging!

I have a 09 focus with 57,000 miles doing the same thing. I took it to the dealer and they said that no code was stored in the computer. They drove the vehicle and could not duplicate the problem. Charged me $75 and sent me on my way. The vehicle losses all power, pull over turn off and then turn on and it drives fine. The vehicle also is chugging at highway speeds. I have had my vehicle at the dealer now for two days and guess what they can't duplicate the problem so nothing is wrong. They have a TSB for this issue which states it is most likely a throttle body. Thet read it to me! They don't want to replace it because they have never had to replace one before. This vehicle is under warranty. I am totally frustrated at this point and I ready to get rid of all 3 of my ford vehicles. Any suggestions!
