sailor I'm noting that the RS airbox still uses the factory inlet tubes for fresh air, so it's not a replacement for the ram air horn mod of this thread.

There is virtually no obstructions from obtaining "fresh air" at that point.

Living in AZ prevents me from installing a fresh air intake due to the location being often so close to the ground. In the summer (or about 80% of the year), on busy roads, and in traffic those temps are pretty high so it make no sense to drop the air intake so low.
$68 retail, i got one

sailor Look under hood for space, you'll see why the Newmission Mod that didn't end up helping was routed the way it was.

Maybe run a pvc tube or ? from the grill and just short of the filter opening to alleviate turbulence but still close enough to fill the intake area with fresh cold dense air?

20FocusDriver16 So I took another look inside the grill and it looks like the shroud is what is directing the airflow to the snorkel intake by way of a very small opening directly above the grill plate as soon as it enters through the grill into the "chamber" before it gets to the shutter system. It appears to also have some ducting on each lower corner which channels it up the sides of the shroud to be used by the snorkel...i think this may actually be a good system as it captures the air in front of the shroud and then the air can be directed up and to the sides where the snorkel can sniff it up. Personally I think a long wide mouth scoop type snorkel would be a good choice to stick there and catch that air as it flows in but I guess Ford determined that snorkel works good enough for their application. I'm actually not sure if that little ST stack would be a better choice based on the way the ducting is shaped without some type re-shaping? I still think the ST ram air snorkel would be the best choice for this type of intake...

All that dammed up air in the area in front of the radiator tries to push through the snorkel/hole it attaches to, cold air intake that way for the air box.

I know where the snorkel opening is and where it attaches on the crossbar, however in order for the air to eventually reach the snorkel intake opening or through the small holes on the tube of the stock snorkel or even the opening on the crossbar (if snorkel has been removed) it still has to get around the shutters since these openings (snorkel/crossbar) sit behind/above the condenser which is behind the shutters which, if closed, completely block out/ deflect most of the incoming air.. if you look through the grill of a 15'/16' SE it is basically a big sealed chamber when the shutters are closed with very "small openings" for air to pass through...Obviously this is enough air for the motor to function adequately in its stock form but if we are trying to increase performance by allowing it to breath better then it looks like we need to get around the restrictions created by this barrier (active shutter system).

Now when the shutters are open I can see how the air flows around, through and above the condenser and should be more easily available to flow through the intake whether it be the stock snorkel or the crossbar opening where it attaches and this would obviously offer a bump in performance (even more so with a free flow filter, snorkel delete, etc.), but I would think nowhere near what can be achieved by a direct ram air type intake snorkel...

So the only viable real performance option (at least for a 15/16 style grill) looks like a direct ram air mod with the scoop sitting in front of the grill and flowing directly into the crossbar; a.k.a. the ST ram air snorkel, along with a way to take advantage of the additional air when the shutters are open..maybe run a newmission style mod from the resonator hole to another scoop mounted above the condenser like where the stock snorkel is or even cut the stock snorkel at the crossbar, attach a hose to the end and still use it to feed into the resonator hole (since the crossbar opening is being used by a ST ram air style snorkel)??
