brighteyes72 They now have obd2 Bluetooth that don't sale for to much, mine I think I paid $20 for and if you have a android phone they usely come with Torque Pro alone with other operating system programs but I like Torque since you can always have it with you.

Leora83 Seriously, a $50 scanner is a great investment. Okay, mine was $40 on sale, but I've used it many times.
True, it tells you what the symptom is, not the cause. Mine said Ignition Coil Module B, so I replaced the coil, only to find the harness was the problem.
But it's way better than guessing or testing 18 different things.

Parts Source used to loan out tools, but I don't know how many of them are still around out in SK.

mellephants You could also go to Wal-Mart... they carry two OBD2 readers where I live. A $100 one that displays code and description, and a $50 one that just displays the code. I bought the $50 one, and once my car works, I might return it. Wal-Mart returns anything. Free rental! It really is nice to be able to read your own codes without going anyplace.

blanezx3 Advance Auto still does this scan. They will not tell you exactly what the problem is. They will tell you what it COULD be and try to get you to go to a mechanic.

blury Just keep in mind the scan will tell you what the problem is not what caused it. This is one of the reasons Autozone has stoped doing it. They would say well theres your problem sell you the part and then a week later the same thing happens again. It solved the sympton not the problem. Thats not true in all cases but just use the scanner to find a problem then trace to the core of said problem if need be.

2000FordFocus Any Canadian here? Is there any place that gives free scan like they do in the US??

rednblackSVT my car does that and i cant ever get it to go away.. i finally just bought an obd tool to reset it, it is always a lean code for me... and the diagnostic mode on the car doesnt display it. go to autozone... and just ask to borrow it, tell them you are an autozoner in georgia... lol ... guess im going to have to get new injectors and fuel pump... time for a turbo....

There are a lot more, including the 'P1xxx' codes that are manufacturer specific, but that'll do for a start...

Here's some more - instrument cluster specific, but generic across all sorts of vehicles as a quick Google search will show. I've also got the equivalent SAE codes listed, which are the official generic ones, the ones that are displayed on the dash are an FMC code format as far as I can tell.

This lot suggests the 262 DTC code is an SCP error - nothing to worry about, just a comms glitch. And any other DTC code that appears on the dash is going to correspond to the second column of the data below, any other codes aren't displayed on the dash, you'll need a readout device to get them.

The table formatting is all messed up, but you should get the idea, the titles should be in 3 columns.
