You probably got it right, once the engine has been run the pointer will probably no longer be in the window, leading people to think the tension is off. The important thing is that you can turn it over by hand repeatedly and the belt stays about where you initially centered it, and if by chance you left the upper cover off, have a look at the belt now and again to make sure it's not riding too much to one side.
In the future you'd get more responses starting your own thread rather than ressurecting a thread from years ago.

Hi guys (I have a 2.0 Zetec Vin 3), and have a similar situation. I just recently did my timing belt with the help of a friend. I just finished putting everything back together this morning. Everything tight to torque spec...
The engine started on first try, but when I was giving everything one last inspection before the test drive, i noticed that the tensioner tension "wrench" marker was fluctuating back and forth and not staying to the correct tension that I had set similar to what its shown in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2t2q_PCjVI).
The engine actually runs really smooth and there are no noises coming from the tensioner. The car actually runs smoother than it did, Just was wondering if its something normal.

the gates kits are the same expect the added pulley. the belt is the same

|duc450||On another note I've heard of people using the Gates kit TCK294A but not using the added pulley. But I've also heard that the belt in the Gates kit TCK294B is a different tooth count and length than the one in TCK294A. I used TCK294B with the single idler pulley. It just got me wondering how it is possible to use the longer belt but I guess there is enough articulation in the tensioner for it to compensate. Iminhell any word on that metal tensioner pulley? Car has been running great since I installed the belt just want to be sure I didnt miss something with the tensioner. Once again, I appreciate all of the opinions and if any one else has anything to add its greatly appreciated.|

Mine has been off the mark as well and when it was running didn't have any issues.
I am putting my engine back together this weekend and I'll let you know if the mark stays in the window. But I have found on a few SVTs that I have done the Timing Belt on, that it doesn't stay exactly there.

|duc450||how far off the mark does it get? Like I said mine is about an inch away from the window. Are you running the Gates tensioner? Cause I swapped from the Gates back to the stock Ford and the Ford wasn't off nearly as much as the Gates, even though my Ford one had the miles on it and the Gates one was used, which could explain why in itself. But I put the Gates back on for piece of mind cause it was new. Thanks again for all the opinions, if anyone else can keep adding to this I'd appreciate it.|

|01svt_sedan||My tensioner does the same thing. I adjust it as needed and try to stay as close to the mark as possible. So far ive driven the car like this for at least 500 miles and nothing has happenned|
