wrc_fan 215 would work for a 7" wheel. In regards to GRM, i.e. Grass roots motorsports magazine, they don't publish all of their articles online, the testing I believe was in last months copy.

If I remember correctly, a lot of the tire to rim sizing really had to do with how the tire felt. When it was matched correctly, the tire felt very responsive, and turned in well. This in turn improved on tester confidence and led to the faster times on the test course.

GodLovesUgly i run the stock tire size and i rub on hard turns and elevation changes. so i wouldn't go wider.
but if you stiffen the suspension up you can run 235s.

i was thinking 215. How wide can you get away with on an SVT suspension?

tires all day.
ideally both. but if you go for wider tires in turn you will need to purchase wider wheels so you don't pinch them too much. but how wide of a tire are you planning to go with? it's tricky to go wide on our cars.

So your experience has been that the extra 1" width of tire and wheel aren't worth the expense? That is what I really need to know.

tukaniSVT No 7" wide will not change your class. Especially in the STU / STX class.

Hmm ... since you still have a Cat ... I thought you can still stay in the standard ST class ... Battling in STX/STU in our region is like suicide. Crazy mods on the cars in this class and very good drivers. ST is more of a mixture and you can have fun and be competitive.

Interesting. I didn't really inquire further because my main reason so far is just to have fun. Would 7" wide rims change my class?

wrc_fan Per my understanding of the rules, STX and STU are different only on displacement limitations and wheel and tire sizing. In the rule book, both the high flow cat and brake swap allowances read both as STX and STU. So unless the group you run with bumped you due to lack of people in class, I see no reason you couldn’t run in STX.
