TRevGreenSE my car broke down out of town last week and i had to use a duralast cv axle driver side. inner boot appears to be stretched as you mentioned. it works, yet now i don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but upon braking the car shakes as if a wheel bearing is bad, and a suspension knocking has occurred which appears to be a bad strut. do you think the axle is the causing this?

Djzx3 Ouch^, had that happen to me on families Subaru, but it only took 30 min to change.

K Dog I like A1 Cardone, shown in the link above.

Other than that, Ford are probably the highest quality. But they all still break. So I've been just swapping out lifetime warrantied GS-P brand axles on all of mine. $59 retail, no questions warranty coverage. i dont think I purchased a Focus axle years, but boy I've sure removed lots busted ones!!!

My latest victim:

Even Massive NA Zetecs rip prothane bushings, stock housings and axles to pieces! ;)

bringler26 I had to replace my passenger side axle from them because it didnt seal into the trans right allowing it to let the trans fluid drain.

Djzx3 So what is a good CV axle brand that doesn't pose this problem?

K Dog Auto and manual Zetec axles ARE the same.

Sounds to me like the wrong axle was in the box or something.

peshewa parts chains like AZ use regional axle rebuilders then they get labled as their own part. Some rebuilders are better than others & this does not hold true for AZ nationwide. If you take it back to them, they can correct the problem I am sure.

pr1mus285 It was the correct part - I double checked it when I turned it in, and online myself. Maybe autozone does not differentiate between automatic and manual in their parts listing - but that is their problem.

Anywho - I hope this hangs around for anyone else out there who buys an axle - is like "huh" when they have it all installed and done, and it looks wrong, types something into google along the lines of "ford focus CV axle too short" or "autozone CV axle too short" or "duralast CV axle too short". They will find this and know that they are not crazy.
