You don't need a helper to do this. If you unscrew the torx bolt about halfway, the antenna base can be lifted up, and twisted off from the top. Saves you the potential pain of misplacing the washer.

|Mr Orange SVT||
Thanks for putting this thread together. Until I saw it last month I was going to have the dealer do this for me. You definitely just saved me some money.
As you can see in the photos my base was in pretty bad condition but it's all better now.

Was reading down and seen your message I've quoted, was going to say that this looks exactly how I would perform that exchange on my 05 ZX3.

Thanks for this excellent instructional. I replaced a busted Focus antenna yesterday using this guide.
Two differences in my case:
1) One of the dome light connections would not come loose, hard as I pulled. So I left the light hanging and worked around it.
2) If you have a helper, it may be unnecessary to completely remove the screw holding the antenna base to the roof. I gradually unscrewed the screw while she gently wiggled the old base until she could pull it loose. The screw remained in place, held by its black plastic collar. Hence I didn't have to worry about keeping track of a washer, reconnecting the antenna, etc. Unscrew the old base JUST until the base is loose, and the screw should stay in place, held by the plastic piece.
