Got a 2013 Electric Focus at the start of the year mostly for the novelty of it. My girlfriend uses it mostly to and from work, round trip of 12 miles a day. Worked out great since she has a Ford Fusion at is manual and she hates having to shift gears so she loves the car. Now we have a problem with her driving, she a speed demon with it because the motor is so quiet.
I love the car also because it is so quiet, and it does have the pickup and go!
I worked out the math for what I figured it would be costing if it was gas over electric over a 3 year period, the results was about $1000 more for the electric over gas for the 3 years. But due to the limited range, we are still keeping the gas powered Fusion car for the longer runs she got to make around here. So end result is that I am paying extra insurance and limited maintenance on a second car due to he lack of range. Living in Houston, 68 miles range just does not cut it not to need a gas car as a back up. Looking forward to a future with longer range on electric.
I kind a wish I got the hybrid version Fusion, and I would have it it could run on electric and plug in the wall to fill up to charge the batteries. Only use the gas when you ran out of battery power.

|Rogerschro||If I had the money and time, I'd get an Electric focus, Add the bumper and ground effects off the ST, Paint it with rally style graphics and put a sound program to make it sound like a race car! Is this wrong????? LOLOLOLOL!|

Once someone builds an electric that has the same range as a gas car on a single charge, charging stations are in abundance at shopping malls, offices, etc, and the sticker price is below 30k, that's when electric will make sense to *most* people, including myself.|

The battery is guaranteed 8 years and/or 100,000 miles. The only maintenance on this vehicle is rotating the tires, changing breakpads and windshield wipers. You return it to the dealer every 20,000 and they look at it! How often are you changing the oil, radiator fluid, air, fuel and transmission filters on your ICE? And what does that cost you?
The average American is now keeping their car for 7 years. Which means this American could actually make $4,500.00 on the car. Unlike most average Americans I am one of those people who keeps their vehicle for 10 plus years.
All of the above being proof enough, the fact is I drive 20,000 miles per year. If you are not driving 15,000 plus miles per year you are quite correct - it is a "rich people" car. You made the mistake of responding to a, not rich, but "smart" everday "Joe Doe" kind of guy

Electrics are still boutique cars for rich people at this point.

|Spare||Smmy15643 - I agree... Actually it is much more than 70%... I own the Focus Electric. I still have my gasser. Last year there were 5 days when I drove more than 100 miles. This year I have filled my gas tank 2 times in the last three months since owning the 2012 FFE. That is a huge savings in gas costs. I drive 20,000 miles per year. 95% of my driving will be electric and I will save $2,300.00 per year at $3.50 per gallon. My added electric bill is $45.00 per month.|

|Smmy15643||yanno... if i was in the market for a new car( im not and wont be for atleast another 6 to 7 years) id seriously think of going electric, i mean mine as well, even if it was 2 or 3 years old id still seriously look into an electric car if i had an older gas car to fall back on, people always complain about the range of these car but id say at least 70% of the population only commute a max of 70 miles a day or less so they wouldnt be worried about running out|

This looks amazing! Just when you thought that the Focus couldn't be any more economical lol I'm going to have to hold back for a while, the price tag looks a but hefty at the moment
