Ok, then if there are no differences in how IMRC works in the SVT and ST170 (my IMRC looks different, but it is suppose to do the same) then you are right, my problem is probably found.

Thanks for the great explanation, but my concern was more about the question if there should be a difference in the manifold mode between (1) engine off + ignition off and (2) engine off + ignition on.

Sniper Focus I heard somewhere they're in regular V6 Contours and "new" Cougars, and they're the same but the cable is a little longer. I've been meaning to check for myself before those cars dry up in junkyards.

sailor Don't know about parts availability on the cable, keep an eye out for an SVT Contour for another that uses the IMRC controller.

reddy1 Ok so I got my new lever on and hooked everything up and it didnt work so I took apart my imrc to clean off the connection then I thought I should probably look at the rest of my imrc. Part of the plastic thing that the wire sits in ( why on earth was there a plastic piece at both ends of this wire screw mexico) and pulls the wire is broke I inagine I cant get just this part so what is the list of cars that had the same imrc? Gotta trybto find one at a junk yard before friday. Thanks (oregon)

Ok I want to make sure I understand the situation.

Previously I was told by a friend that this "little open" position at "engine off" is normal, that after starting the ignition (but not the engine) the line should be automatically released from the strained position and the intake valves should be closed.

That means that I was told the following scheme:

1. Engine off + ignition off = IMRC line is strained and intake valves are about 5-10% open

2. Engine off + ignition on = IMRC line is released and intake valves are closed.

3. Engine on = the IMRC is closing/opening intake valves, depending on the RPM.

Now what you told me is:

1. Engine off + ignition off = IMRC line is free and intake valves are closed.

2. Engine off + ignition on = IMRC line is free and intake valves are closed.

3. Engine on = the IMRC is closing/opening intake valves, depending on the RPM.



Is this correct?

No, the intake needs to be completely at rest when the engine is off. This is supposed to work strictly as an OPEN or CLOSED system with no stages in between. At least it looks like you've found your problem. You'll probably get performance back in the upper RPM range when the IMRC drops the lever back down to "engine off" status.
