catso This thread gives a special meaning to "the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray"...............

sailor Welcome to FF catso!

Can you wonder if I cringed the last time someone bent a timing pin?

Grumpy gets most of the credit, miss seeing him here. Quite the worldwide effort at the time.

catso Epic thread indeed! I've been wrenching for many a year and have encountered lots of adversity, but I must say this crew was very tenacious in resolving the many issues that came up. This thread should be required reading for all starting mechanics and used in teaching "Timing Belt 101" to all Focus owners.

Oh man....

Yes it does turn CC. So the next time look at a new harmonic bolt to see how the threads are laying on the bolt.[left or right threaded]. Another lesson learned about life...!

nilskje Just for the fun (of this epic thread)a 23mm bimetal holesaw on a drill grinds off the "solid" washer on the cranshaft pulley bolt in no time, did so tdy, after reading the original post, and almost kiling my impact...

Harmonic Balancer

To loosen the bolt it turns counter clockwise. I put a large screw driver behind the balancer (dont pry it) and it popped loose. When pulling it off dont smash your knuckle like I did. Ouch!!! Impact gun works wonders

coldbear Fellas...THINK HOW EASY IT IS TO LOCK YOUR MOTOR AFTER PLUG REMOVAL? Simply take about a foot of cotton 5/16 rope and stuff this into # 1 hole. She'll lock it for sure because the piston cannot reach the TDC. It's so simple...I've done it dozens of times with motors. A well kept secret from an old line machanic!
