You're trying to censor again. Parts of this thread were actually quote good and informative - for NEWBIES. They would not have found the thread otherwise. If you don't like it - don't read it and don't keep metaposting about why you don't want to do exactly what you're doing. Why is this so hard ?
Don't post. Move on. That's all. If the thread is useful, someone else will post - and they usually do. I've revived about a dozen classic threads this week (this wasn't the best example). Most of them them took off with NEW posts and NEW interest and were appreciated by NEW readers. (Check out Hottest GIrl Ever!!)

FORD 5W20 motor oil
Hey VANACE... If your statement is true, then why did Ford just switch to 5W20 in 2001???
Engineers have known about the affects of friction & viscosity breakdown for over 100 years!
Synthetic & semi-synthetic oils as well as multi-viscosity oils have been on the market for over 20 years! Why is'nt every auto maker including the HIGH PERFORMANCE imports using 5W20??
What type & viscosity of oil is "FACTORY FILL" on Porsche. Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Audi, Corvette and even the FORD Mustang Cobra? (HINT: It's not 5W20)

As far as Ford switching to 5W20 after 2001... That has very little to do with engine protection. It's simply a cheap way to increase fuel mileage (at the expence of engine life!).
That is one ******* statement. Oil under pressure is oil under pressure. You have the same protection with any weight (withing reason) when the oil pressure is at normal operating pressures. The lighter weight flows faster on start up. This makes less wear. And less parasitic loss while running. It takes horse power to pump a liquid. It takes more hp to pump a thick liquid. So your theory is backwards. A thinner oil will get to the bearings faster, thereby minimizing wear.

My brother owns and Ducati motorcycle. On the web forum he frequents, they have out lawed oil discussions!
The problem, as I see it, is that very few of us are petrochemical engineers so we are at the mercy of what the "experts" say. Unfortunatly Amsoil has their experts while Mobil 1 and the others all have their experts; all with different test results It's enough to make you start drinking.
The key is to change one's oil on a regular basis....according to the experts that is. No really, that has to make sense. Dirty oil is like sand paper in a moving engine.
BTW, I'm using Torco SR-1 synthetic racing motor oil. Hey what can I say, they had a sale and Jackson Racing did a dyno test using a bone stock honda civ. HP was increased 3% using Torco. Torco is known in racing circles, motorcycles and in Europe.
