Pin outs are the same. Just pulled one from a 1999 V6 Cougar out of the junk yard. The cable is about an inch longer which doesn't cause any issues as long as you route the slack properly. Plug and play, and I got mine for 10 bucks! I did have to pull it apart and clean some fuzz insulation stuff that appeared to have come from underneath the motor. A piece got caught in the contact.

An update for people with motors that pull, hold for a few seconds and then let go again: That's because the self test failed to see the contact inside the unit closing. It then shuts off the unit and throws the famed code. My original unit was not pushing power to the motor inside at all. The used unit I picked up just needed the fluff cleaned out from between the contacts and it worked immediately. Both failures throw the same code.

reddy1 To those of you who got a new one and then found this thread anyone still selling for parts? (The plastic guy that pulls the wire inside the actual imrc module is a goner)

Ok, then if there are no differences in how IMRC works in the SVT and ST170 (my IMRC looks different, but it is suppose to do the same) then you are right, my problem is probably found.

Thanks for all the help, I'll let you know if I managed to fix it.

I took a quick look and mine did not move between those two modes. It pulled 100% when I started the engine.

Engine off = IMRC is free and the manifold is in short runner mode.

Idle through 5K or 6K rpm = IMRC is pulling the cable for long runner mode.

Above 5K or 6K rpm = IMRC lets go for warp speed power (short runner mode.)
Thanks for the great explanation, but my concern was more about the question if there should be a difference in the manifold mode between (1) engine off + ignition off and (2) engine off + ignition on.

Sniper Focus I heard somewhere they're in regular V6 Contours and "new" Cougars, and they're the same but the cable is a little longer. I've been meaning to check for myself before those cars dry up in junkyards.

sailor Don't know about parts availability on the cable, keep an eye out for an SVT Contour for another that uses the IMRC controller.

reddy1 Ok so I got my new lever on and hooked everything up and it didnt work so I took apart my imrc to clean off the connection then I thought I should probably look at the rest of my imrc. Part of the plastic thing that the wire sits in ( why on earth was there a plastic piece at both ends of this wire screw mexico) and pulls the wire is broke I inagine I cant get just this part so what is the list of cars that had the same imrc? Gotta trybto find one at a junk yard before friday. Thanks (oregon)
