gthang just this morning, a white van pulled out in front of me and stopped. i kinda of had a feeling he was gonna do that. i checked for oncoming cars before he even started pulling out, and i swerved to avoid him. nobody was hurt. but man, my heart was going faster than i was!

knightm3 I would consider a person who can get themselves around an autocross circuit in short order and with minimum drama a "good driver". Accident avoidcance skills as well as other real-world techniques can be honed and practiced for $30 on Sunday morning.

gthang What i mean by having everything you learned thrown out the window...

One time, it was raining really hard on my way home from college. I was driving my Focus and i entered a puddle and hydroplaned. While hydroplaning, the engine rev'd so hard, that my engine shut off. Realizing what happened, i quickly restarted my 5-speed in the midst of near-rush-hour traffic. this had never happened to me before, and i was unprepared for the situation at hand, but i quickly summed up the crisis and produced the necessary solution.

People who can do this (summing up a situation that they've never been in before, and executing the proper solution) are also good drivers.

chameli74 A good driver is someone who doesn't piss me off when they are in front or behind me on the road

Seriously, though: A good driver is someone who is respectful of others around him or her. Stops at a stop sign, doesn't rush through a red light, uses a turn signal properly, uses commom sense, etc.

I will admit that I HATE to drive when it rains or snows. I become a good driver in bad weather by acknowledging my fear and NOT driving!

avengerc4 I anticipate bad moves, and thanks to years of video games and sports, I have a way out of virtually every bad situation on the road, without having to think about it. [/B][/QUOTE]

hahahahhahahaha so true so true.....go Vice City ;)

gthang man, this thread's hot!

Seriously though, all the replies are smart, and thought-provoking, and i do many of them, that is when i'm not driving "w-recklessly"... lol!

Anyway, just thought you guys have done an excellent job giving your opinions. There are so many points of views on what a good/bad driver is.

Good to know there are at least a couple of video gamers on here. I read in Reader's Digest an article about a study of video games and their effect on real-world driving. According to the article, the study found that those who spent ten hours gaming with action games and driving games were more likely to correctly name the items that flashed in rapid sequence on the screen than those who didn't play games at all.

Just letting you know. But the more video games you play without breaks, the more your vision blurs, just my 2 cents.

Keep those replies coming!

vanace lol ... I don't have access to anything of his... thank God!! I don't work there any more. I have been saving news paper articles... I really want to go to his trial, but they aren't going to fry the bastard I guess because of a plee bargin. He is telling them where the bodies are. Yeah.. Petes are nice trucks. They now share the same chassis with kenworth. And still American owned... unlike frieght liner, and now sterling
