173k 9/26/14

M/Y 2002, bought new in October 2002. As of 9/26/14, 173k miles. Uses about 0.5 qt oil every 5k miles and I average 30mpg per tank (yes, that is correct, sometimes 35mpg on highway trips).

Car has been in 3 accidents;
  • Wife got side swiped by minivan on interstate (new drivers side of car)
  • I rear ended a truck (less than 5mph and $4k in damage)
  • Someone backed into right front (bent tie rods, damage trim)

Failed/worn components to date (aside from normal maintenance & wear items (belts, timing belt, brake pads, plug wires, etc)
  • New stereo head unit (CD changer) 25k
  • Intake runner actuator 40k
  • Repair stereo head unit (CD changer) 55k
  • Thermostat housing 60k
  • Throwout bearing (new clutch) 75k
  • All new bearings at 105k
  • Suspension; shocks, tie rods, new bushings, ball joints, etc 105k
  • Passenger side drive shaft (bearings)
  • HVAC Blower motor 110k
  • Alternator 140k
  • Thermostat housing 150k
  • Rear Ford emblem 168k
  • new rear bearings again at 172k
  • Rear subwoofer speaker torn at 173k

I am at a point where I need to consider replacing some of the suspension bushings again and ball joints again. These wonderful PA roads have taken their toll.

It has been a great car, I would buy/own another mk1 Focus. Ford's dealer and warranty service is lacking though and probably one of the reasons I am steering away from Ford products now. I have had to fight dealers with warranty claims on all 3 new Ford's I have owned (97 Expedition, 02 Focus & 08 F250). I think Ford builds a quality product, but their bean counters, warranty policies and dealer networks have soured me.

2000zX3sct 03 svt with 253,000 Km's . Original car had far to much rust so it was transfered to a wagon . Almost all new parts suspension wise , new cv shafts , tie rods , steering rack , ball joints, to much to list . So hopefully this thing will be on the road for another 250,000 lol
