Kipp generally we always ran wires from the amp to the stock harness and ran it through that. but none of the installs we did were anything too powerfull either (50x4 or at most 70x4). I would have done a custom run (and did a few times), but most people didn't want to pay for it or didn't care that much.

crice8 quick question for best buy installers. When doing a 4 channel amp install, do you run individual wires to each of the 4 speakers? This is directed at BestBuy in particular

dbmonster found some more pics

this was our stores demo vehicle/spl comp vehicle. all the equipment was from the store and the entire install team as well as members of the competition team we were part of at the time (team noisyboyz) built the car from the ground up.

that's me in the port

Let me know what you need and I will tell you what I got, and if I don't got it, and alternate suggestions. Just one thing to say... w/ wholesale I've noticed that the availability of what's in stock is in constant rotation. Things get sold out in bulk buys by big shops regularly. Here is list of the brands that I can get my hands on currently. I don't always carry the whole line of one brand and our brand selection is always subject to change.

Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, JVC, Kicker, REAudio, Auditor, Planet Audio, Quantum Audio, Jensen, Powerbass, DB Drive, Tunn, Power Acoustic, Modevo, American International, Metra, DB Link, Audiofonics, Phase Linear, Hypnotic, Konaki, Omega, Excaliber, K-9, Prestige, Audiovox, Skytec, Phonics Digital, MA Audio, Performance Technique, Soundstorm, Q Power, Nitro, TView, Kinetic Batteries, Shuriken Batteries, Xstatic Batcap Batteries, Visonik, Volfenhag, Tsunami, Tview HID Lighting, Phase Linear, Lanzar, Legacy, Distinct Audio, Interfire, Crossfire, Schoche, Cadence, Boss, Nesa, Raptor, Streetwires

dbmonster nice thread

I was a sales and installation manager for circuit city from '05 till shortly before they shut down. working for c city was by far the best job i've ever had, it was a lot of fun and I really miss those days.

My store was one of the few that still did any kind of custom work, this was mostly because everybody in my department had a custom car audio background before they worked there.

here's a few pics of some of our custom jobs I worked on.

this was a custom fiberglass sub box and custom built back seat, I took the factory seat out and built all new framework for two bucket seats with the sub box in the middle. the only part of this build I didn't do was the upholstery work which a local shop did.

this was a custom center console for the store director's truck

and this was a set of fiberglass boxes for a lancer

the goofy amp mounting in that last pic we didn't do, we just made the boxes.

Kipp yeah retail markup on accessories is insane. that's one thing i miss about not working in a shop now (do traveling installs for gps). i don't ever wanna buy anything anymore cause i know what things really cost. luckily i was able to kinda stockpile random extra stuff while I was there and have most of what I would need for almost anything now.

Anywho...I'm laughing at the 5 gal bucket thing, cause I grew up in the country, and had a bunch of rednecks out by me. I saw someone use a 5 gal bucket with a sub. Honestly, it didn't sound bad. Kinda setup like a bazooka bass tube.

I'm sort of the audio guy amongst my friends. I do all my own installs, have built a few boxes, you know the deal. I am definitely not someone who's work you had to re-do, and I can laugh with you because I'm usually the guy going "what were they thinking" when they came to me when their install didn't go quite so well.

I think the only bone I have to pick with a comment made on here is something about using cheap cables....can I get some honest input from you all? Being that I worked at Best Buy, I realize the markup on that stuff...but really, is there a $50 difference between a simple shielded RCA cable from Radio-Shack (or some other vendor for that matter,) and the ones that Monster make?

And as far as I know, copper is copper is copper. I can buy copper cable from my local NAPA by the foot, and it is A LOT cheaper than the copper in those wiring kits.

Just curious, since I was never really sold on the cost of those materials. If you guys have some input I would greatly appreciate it.
