I personally am indifferent. So, I'll let you draw your own conclusions.
1 camp says that the temperature goes down by cooling with water. You can off set this by reducing the tire pressure. Wetting the tire reduces traction by launching with a wet tire.
The other camp says that cooling the tire with water reduces greasiness of tires as temperatures increase.
I can't tell you if one is better than another.
My experience is that monitoring the pressures is the most effective way to maintain/increase traction.

Dirtydeeds- Thanks, I'll try that next time out. The only reason I'm running them so high is because even at 44-46lbs up front, the side walls show scuff signs. I will try it though.

Also, check your pressures after each run.
Pressures increase as the tire temp increases.
So, you may start at 40LBS, but after your run be over 50.

Thanks for the reply. I actually purchased the euro wheels and direzza's already in the 215-40-17 size. I've run them at 2 events and I'm pleased thus far. This is my first year and I'm not too experienced yet, but I do feel that these tires get greasy when hot. They definitely push more on the later runs. I borrowed my buddy's water sprayer yesterday and after wetting them I turned my best time of the day. I purposely didn't wet them after that and ran my second slowest time on my 5th and final run. It could very well be that I'm over driving the tires and cooking them, but I've noticed this definite push the last two times out. I must add this though... on my 1st race with them I noticed this "greasy" feeling from them on the later runs, but my times got faster and faster; this however was not the case yesterday. I'll put up a video later and maybe you can provide me with some feedback to let me know if its me and something I'm doing, or if its the nature of these tires.
On a side note, I've finished 1st in STN (street tire novice) at every event in our summer series this year, and my times were good for two 2nds, one 3rd, and one 4th place this year in GS. I'm so glad I decided to start autocrossing this year and have all but given up drag racing my mustang.

Just to add my .02 worth.
Doug is spot on in every respect.
If I can make a recommendation for the future. In GS, you can run a DOT legal competition tire.
The manufacturers build in a "fudge" factor to the tire design. Smoe, like the BFG and the Hoosier build in 1/2 degree of negative camber into the tire (that's why they are hard to stand up).
They also play with the sizes to allow for greater competition.
For example, I ran the Toyo Proxes RA1 on the stock wheel. A 235/35R17 which is roughly the same height as the stock wheel/tire combination.
Hoosier (my preference) makes a 225/40R17 that is actually closer to a 235 in width (design "fudge"), but much stickier than the Toyo.
The wider tire gives you quicker turn in and response - especially in high speed sweepers and reduces understeer.
Also, they will NOT rub.

|Killercanary||Thanks for all the help everyone. My new shoes showed up yesterday. I got a set of SVT Euro wheels wrapped in 215-40-17 Z1 tires. I'll get some pics up later today if the rain holds off. It was mentioned in another thread that these tires run on the wide side, in my case they appear narrower than the Cooper Sport tires I run everyday on the car.|

Wheels are unrestricted in STS, other than a 7.5" max width:
^^^That's primarily what the "2" means in STS2.
In fact, fOCUS isn't even eligible, as the displacement limit in STS2 is 1.9L.

The temperature hovered in the mid 30's most of the day. We ran 36lbs all the way around and that worked pretty well us on such a cold day.
