Racers Tommy Kendall,, Boris Said, John Andretti and Graham Rahal will put the new BMW M3 through its paces, as the four compete in “the Ultimate Driver Challenge” as part of a special edition of the long-running SPEED series Test Drive. The one-hour program will premiere March 25 at 8 p.m. ET.

”As the Test Drive franchise has grown and matured, it has evolved into a truly international series placing some of the world’s best cars into the hands of some of its most skilled and accomplished drivers,” said SPEED Vice President Bobby Akin. “This latest installment raises that bar even higher.”

The competition will include challenges through a slalom run, lane changes, braking, skid pad performance and autocross competition, with the winner being awarded a $10,750 Girard-Perregaux watch.

As part of the program, SPEED viewers will visit BMW M in Munich, gaining insight into the engineering and development of the new BMW M3, including riding along for a test drive on Germany’s autobahn.

With the M3's first ever V8, variable double-VANOS camshaft control, and the ability to go from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, this high-performance sports car brings a little bit of the racetrack to the road.

Duffman355 The BMW Maintenance Program is the only no-cost maintenance program in the industry that covers wear and tear items like brake pads and rotors for four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. BMW owners pay nothing for all scheduled inspections, oil changes, brake pads, wiper blade inserts and other wear-and-tear items.

Beautiful car, but my first thought was "wow, I would hate to have to pay for maintainance costs." I'll bet you that thing sound glorious too with that crazy high revving V8

illinipo I believe the base price for a coupe at one point was supposed to be 58k

and yes I used to reeeeally want this car that is how I know... but still that was just a rumor.

Whaddya mean, the "first"? The 1980-somethings? No way. Maybe you mean the '83-ish M1. I'd bet I'm real close. I'd say $70K would be the absolute TOPS for the topless one (and I'll bet that's high).

The BMW 6-series convertible starts at around $80K (as do the Porsche 911 and Jag XK convertibles), so I'm sticking with $60K.

shepski ^^ why's it a paper tiger? BMW M3s always deliver what they promise.

Pound-for-pound, dollar-for-dollar, probably the best cars in the world. (Although - seriously - I still wouldn't trade my SVTF for one. OK, I WOULD, but then I'd sell it, buy another SVTF, and spend the surplus on something else...)

Sid03SVT im not a fan of the styling.. but its a pretty decent paper tiger (althogh in BMW's case it will back up its performance claims) i would like to drive one, but alas i will probably never own one. **sad face**

illinipo Ya, I was gonna get a coupe when I graduate, but a turbo for the wagon is much, much cheaper and it will be just as fast or at least pretty close... Plus I wont have to worry about a rock chipping the bumper and causing a $5,000 repair bill!
