This is an old thread ...
I love my SVT ... and 1st has its ups and downs ... daily traffic not so good ... for the track pretty good.
As for your question mikebontoft ... I like the Getrag for its 6th gear and nice ratio, but I like the MTX75 for an easy launch tranny. Getrag I found is great for AutoX / Road races and the MTX is good for Straight shots. Again ... this is what I have experienced.

lol revived threads.......so what do you guys recommend then? the MTX75 or the Getrag? silly question, but y'know, I gotta get a feel for which one I should get
and by any chance, couldn't you just change the ratios or am I just thinking of something only in racing trannies? and I'm sure they have better clutches, right?

|CaysE||They were crap on wet roads and they didn't grab nearly as well in the dry as the Kumho Ecsta SPT, which are in the same price range and perform well in the rain. I know a lot of people rave about them, but personally I wasn't happy with them. I eventually had a belt shift in one of the tires after maybe 15k miles and got rid of them for the Kumhos above.|

And polish, I agree. I quicker clutch would be fun :)

I like the michelin pilot sports :) expensive but worth every penny.
back on topic:
I believe that the SVT could've been upgraded with a nicer clutch. That would help a lot.

|cconley||I have to disagree with you CaysE, I've put quite a few thousand miles (about 12k) on my Neogens and they haven't changed a bit. As far as wet goes, I haven't done much "messing around" in the wet but I have NEVER hydroplaned, even up to 90 mph in puddles. Its a great tire, and throw the price into the equation... they're the best!!!|

That's my point... the car doesn't ever need to get into 6th gear for any reason other than cruising, but it's barely much of a drop in RPM from 5th. 6th should be taller so you can cruise at 60mph around 2k rpm, instead of 50mph.
Off-tangent, the Neogens are only super sticky for a little while, and they're garbage on wet roads.

|cconley||And on a second note... The car is geared for racing. We just don't make enough power to be able to run all the way up through 6th. If 6th was geared for cruising, then it wouldn't be usable for anything but that. IMO the gearing on the SVT is perfect.|

|cconley||I'll second that Hold on SVT! Tall gearing means we don't spin the tires in 1st. At least I don't. My old dunlops would break every now and again, and always on wet roads, but my Neogens are super sticky and they never break on dry pavement. A shorter 1st gear does mean better acceleration... but it's no good if you don't have the traction.|
