BlkMamba03 I am running HPDE 1 in the spring 08. I will run my sPEC practice car,03 SVT everything to spec but no roll-cage and seat. When i move to the real SPEC Focus it will only have all the safety but the driving dynaminics i will have learned in HPDE with the SPEC J for junior i like to call it.

The SPEC J will be at Pocono raceway and Lime Rock Park for HPDE in the spring and are taking time off for the SVTOA experience said to be in New jersey for 08!! then back to HPDE and maybe an autocross for fun.

MattMarks Exactly - what we (and more importantly Ford) would like to see is to be on par or a bit faster than the Miatas. When people are deciding on what car to build, that we are a faster, cheaper to build, and more affordable option - that doesn't look like a chick car.

WeeAsp The other issue relative to comparing the spec miata to the foci is the maturity of the miata program.

Like spec foci, the miatas started out as a "low buck" means to go racing. As the competition and popularity grew, so did allowances in the rules.

In order for older chassis and powerplants to remain competitive, modifications were made to the rule sets that allow for structured modifications.

I anticipate that that spec focus will also follow this mold as the series matures.

MattMarks At the NASA championships at Mid-Ohio this year - the fast Spec Focus guys were in the running mid-to-high 1:45's. The top Spec Miata guys were running 1:42's. 1:45's would be mid-pack in that class. If we went to some other tracks like VIR full - the results would be pretty much equal as the Foci's better HP and TQ could be more fully used than at a pretty tight Mid-Ohio.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

- The miata's have years and years of tuning and setup - and the series is, for all intents, a pro series. The Foci have at most a year of setup and we're all learning. I expect the gap to be down to a second or less this year on better setup alone.

- The weakness of the Focus relative to the Miata is mid-corner group - especially in fast sweepers. Some of this is understood as the Focus is FWD and will start to wash out on the power - but we've gone to a better spring package for this year (stiffer and lower) and increased tire widths by 1/2 an inch, which should address a lot of this.

- The new tire (Toyo R888) has shown a lot more grip than the RA1 in Ford's testing. So, we'll see where that puts us.

ROE_Wedge Spec Focus is faster than Spec Miata?!??! I dont know who exactly said that but i am wondering if that is true?

MattMarks SP main is already hosting races and HPDE's. They paved it last month on Tues-Thurs, can and hosted the Porsche Club races on Fri-Sun. A lots of HPDE activity and and an EMRA race since then.

For last NASA race on the new pavement, lap times were on average TWO seconds faster per lap for the fast guys.

They laid the ashpalt directly over the old stuff after grinding away the worst of the bumps. In addition to making the track smoother, it lowered all of the curbing by two inches, making some of it more usable (carousel, T10), but also increased the dropoff if you run wide. Hopefully, they will fill some of it in as there was some nasty accidents on what would have been routine 4 wheels off incidents.

WeeAsp Summit Point - MAIN will be ready in the spring.

dhardison I recently picked up a '00 ZX3 and will be running it in SCCA SSC (showroom stock C) next year (after driver's school in April). I don't think it's going to be very competitive with the SSC Hondas, Chevy Cobalts and Mazdas, so in '09 I'm probably moving the 'ole girl up to SCCA ITA or NASA SpecFocus.

BadIdea Yeah I would think Summit is open next year since they just repaved the main circuit this summer and shenandoah is only a few years old.

Huh? Are you referring to BadIdea's post? I think he meant he is done until 2009.
