MattMarks The 2.3's are about 150hp plus or minus a few at the wheels on a cool day with no humidity. SVT's are in the mid-to-high 150s but only have about 140 or so Tq - which is significantly lower than the the 2.3 cars.

For reference - my car made 146 hp with the following mods:

1) Cosworth CAI
2) Cosworth Exhaust header
3) Focussport 2.25" exhaust - no cat
4) Focussport high-performance tune
5) OEM throttle body

The car made 122 hp bone stock -so these bolt ons were worth 24 hp.

slo1 So how many horsepower do these things make?

The cars at the moment seem to be evenly split between the SVT and the 2.3. The Zetec got some new parts (cams/head) for this year, so it will be up on power, and the SVT and 2.3 have lower RPM limits. So we'll see a lot more 2.0 duratecs and zetecs this year.

Weight is also up for the 2.3 liter cars.

Based on Ford's testing, the cars should be very close this year, especially if you the zetec and 2.0 duratec run the 4.06 ring and pinion.

A couple of options. Phil's Tire Service ( has trackside support for most of the NASA Northeast and Mid-Atlantic events as well as the NASA National Champtionships. They're in Craigsmore, NY (wherever that is?).

Radial Tire (Silver Spring, MD) also has great pricing. Website is - ask for Paul. Either company will be happy to ship to you.

No affiliations other than satisfied customer, yada yada...

I'm sure that there are other online vendors as well, but I've used both and have been quite happy.
Personal opinion here, but Radial Tire is the ONLY way to go. I haven't met anyone more knowledgable about R-compound tires than Paul.

As an FYI, Paul is one of the 2 drivers in Grand Am that I crew for.

He's a very good man.

MattMarks I've found over the years that vendor's margins are so small on race tires that there's not a whole lot wiggle room available. The only real savings to be had are on the shipping fees and/or mounting.

My local shop offers $10 mounting and FREE flipping between events to racers. That's a couple of hundred bucks over the life of a set of tires.
