Duratec Engine

Does anyone know where the coil system is on a 05 duratec? Mine didnt come with a tachometer either and im trying to install the tach but need to run it through a tach adapter because of the multiple coil system. Problem is i cant locate the system itself and find the green and blue striped wire. Any suggestions?

cookiemonster52 This just in: it freaking works!

For all of those looking on how to get ahold of a compatible tachometer for your D-tec which doesn't have one, this thread ought to help. Sounds like it should be a walk in the park, but if it weren't for the suggestion of that site, I don't think I would have ever found the dang part.

All I did was get my cluster #, use that site to locate clusters whose # closely matched mine (only difference being the last 2 numbers) and there you have it. Very useful site.

When I put the cluster in, it was yelling at me, probably recognizing that "hey, this wasn't here last time." The odometer/trip odometer were blank and in its place was just the word 'gage'. No U. Go Ford. Maybe they knew the word "gage" is another word for "challenge" and left the U out on purpose :)

Having not seen this before, I started pushing the reset button which cycled it through the diagnostic modes. I left it on the digital tach and compared it to the gauge needle as I revved and it was dead on. Turn the car off, turn it back on and now your "gage" should be back to normal showing 0.0 for trip odo and whatever the milage is on the odo. Of course, your odo will be different than what your car *really* has unless you buy a cluster with more miles than you really have, drive on your old cluster until you reach the new cluster's milage, then make the switch. Or, I hear you can have Ford change the odo number for you.

And there you have it. One Ford mistake remedied. Now for a dead pedal.

I'm not positive yet. I imagine what's most important is the first set of numbers, for example 3S4T. The one Ford gave me was 3S4T-10849-EE, but the one I bought is 3S4T-10849-BE. Typically when #s like that are used, the last few indicate revisions/alterations. If the first 4 match, I'd bed they're compatible but it's entirely possible that I'm wrong about that. I made sure that I'm able to return it in case it isn't compatible. I'll know for sure once mine gets here. Hopefully it's not too much longer.

The site doesn't. You'll have to remove your cluster and get the # off the back or call the dealership and give them your VIN. I tried calling the dealership and they said they don't give out part #'s over the phone (weird) so I just took mine out and looked.

Oh wow, that's a great tool right there.

I finally got in to tearing out my gauges. The verdict is: 3S4T-10849-EE

Will the BF BE or BG ones still work? I imagine the 3S4T is what really matters.

There was also: ICQE33062A and Cluster C170. I'm not entirely sure what those indicate.

I also learned that my care IS a PZEV.

If the ones you listed will work and you have one, name a price. I could get one off of that site, but with after all your help I'd really rather get it from you if you have one.

Off topic: has anybody ever had the animated icons to the right of replies go into warp speed? It's pretty hilarious watching the 'punch in the face' one go nuts.
