Bob G Had this same problem. Turn the round bumpers on the corner of the lid a 1/2 turn or so CCW and fixed. What you're doing is essentially putting a little preload on the bumpers and striker. Hit the open button and the lid pops up.

jcar Freddie - yes it held up. I sold the car this spring and picked up a Lincoln MKZ for my wife now that she is retired and not commuting a long way. But never had another problem with the trunk on the Focus.

Freddie Mofan jcar,
I'm having a similar problem with my trunk latch. Makes the loud noise with the key fob and the release button inside the car. However, the latch doesn't stay closed, it actually does the opposite, and doesn't like to re-engage when I try to shut the trunk. I get the light inside too that says a door is open. I was just wondering if the trunk adjustment held and corrected your problems? If so, I'll get the trunk adjusted. Thanks.

ZippyZX3 Glad you got it fixed.

One trick you can do to see if the trunk is misaligned is to put the key in and while holding the key turned. Lower the trunk slowly and it should close all the way without any binding. If it off a little you will feel it. You can do this on your doors too. Just hold the door release out and close the door slowly. What you want is for the doors or trunk not to latch.

jcar Ouch! Looks like the buzzing sound won't be coming from your trunk anymore. Sorry to see your car messed up like that, looks like a rollover?

jcar Got the Focus back today. The dealer realigned the trunk lid. So far, it is working fine. They kept it an extra day so that they could simply recycle the release several times before giving it back, and I've opened and closed it several times. It looks like they may have finally fixed it -- my wife printed out your comments Goinloco1 and gave it to them to consider. They said that this is the only Focus that has come in with this problem, but the trunk alignment made sense. If it comes back I'll let you know!

jcar After seeing Goinloco's comments I have found that when I get the noise now, if I grab the "wing" and move the trunk lid a little bit that the trunk opens fine. So my wife is taking the Focus in this week and going to ask them to check alignment and lid flex to see if that is the problem. Hopefully that will take care of the problem and I'll let you know the results.
