NickZ20 Can you tell by looking at this tps, if it's for an atx or mtx? It's on my 03 manual zx3, but it looks like the automatic tps.

NickZ20 Yeah it seems to be an intermittent thing. Basically sometimes it changes maybe by 100 rpms, not much, at idle. Then after a long period of driving sometimes I'll shift from a gear to neutral and the rpms will just drop and stall out on me. Fixed all possible vacuum leaks.

sailor Yeah, line up the center connection then twist enough to put the bolts in.

Codes can only tell you the computer is seeing a problem, not all problems register - and not always immediately. That's why there are "pending" codes for occasional issues.

If it's not working at all (no connection) there would be a code, if the wiring is broken or shorted to ground one would register. If the progressive change of resistance isn't as smooth as it should be, possibly NOT a code. That's why a "sweep test" checking for even change of resistance as the throttle is moved is one diagnostic for a TPS.

Not making contact consistently would be an intermittent, only registering when it occurs. Could take a while for a code to be set if it doesn't happen often.

NickZ20 Ok so pop the center piece in, then twist it to line up the bolt holes basically?

sailor Not quite, have to throw in the std. warning about fitting the TPS to the shaft first, then turning it slightly for the bolt holes to line up.

Always throw that in now, after a few broke them by "putting it on straight". Who knows when this will be read again.

Ok that's what i thought. My old car you had to swivel it, then bolt it down. So I can just plug and go then?

amc49 None of them do, you can't anyway, the bolt hole locations lock them in a certain place. The PCM has an algorithm that adjusts for slight differences between switches, pull battery cable off to force a relearn and problem solved.

NickZ20 Bumping this up again. I have an 03 zx3 zetec 5 speed mtx. If I replace the tps, does it need to be adjusted?

JFrye I had the same issue with mine. After some research, and talking with a couple friends at local Ford Dealerships, there is some sort of problem within the throttle body itself. I do not know how to explain what they said, and for the life of me, I cannot find the source again on the web, but I replaced my TPS, and pigtail and still had the issues. I replaced the throttle body, and all the issues went away.

Im only posting this based on my finding(which I'm sorry I cant find the source), and what I had to do to solve my problems.
