COSVT03 I watched your video and think the way you did that was all wrong. I have driven a WRX, Evo, STI, and SRT-4 and our suspension STOCK spanks the crap out of all of them Minus the STI. I think you could have done a little more aggressive cornering than you did, and that would of made up alot of that distance that EVO had on you. But SVTF vs Evo are suspension spanks theres easy. Watch the body roll on the EVO. His car is pulling to the outside. Just my opinion.

Forgot to say, you each should have done laps on your own so neither one of you had to be limited by the others driving habits, Cornering Ability could make or break both drivers on that course.

Around here SVTF's are $ 15-16k, thats half the price of an EVO or STi and $ 10k less than a WRX.

Compare apples to apples.

MTE, your trying to say your 02 SVTF runs a 14.89 with a CAI, ORP and cat back, how about a slip or 2 and maybe a video or some reliable folks who saw you?
Hate to break it to ya. But that time 14.89 is very doable. I ran 14.91 with just and CAI and ORP. If I had some more runs that day I think I coudl have broken into 14.8 territory that night.

I have two friend, one with an STi and the other one with an EVO8, both stock. The EVO does 13.72 at the 1/4 mile while the STI does 13.69. I have another friend with and WRX and over $20K in mod's, see here ( www.TAVRacing.net ) and runs the 1/4 mile in 12.9 sec. Also I saw this other guy at the race track the other day runing an SVTF with the Vortex and a 50 shot N20 runing 13.19,13.23,13.15 all night long, while I had a best time of 14.89 with no FI.

If im not mistaken JE Pistons and Esslinger has the pistons for our cars.

Hope this help's.
Hmmmm....
I put about 2K into my 302 in my '90 Mustang coupe including the cost of the motor from the junkyard and am running 400crank HP with it. This is all done with stock ported heads, running the stock intake gasket. I could build an exact duplicate of my Mustang with far less than 20K. Mind you this is all naturally aspirated. No nitrous, turbo or blower. Follow the link for some times and pics:

My point?
If it is all about the 1320, spend the money wisely. I would be very embarrassed if I had spent 30K on a new car and then 20K in mods to run 12.9's. That is very weak.

BTW - I have a 150 shot nitrous kit that has been collecting dust for about 3 years that I am contemplating throwing on the car. I think some 10's are achievable at around 130MPH. This would make it the fastest stock headed Mustang in the world. :)

That's all for now. Move along. :D

Slickshoes Ok, well, this video will make me look like I put my foot in my mouth a little, and maybe I did. I'm perfectly cool with that! And unfortunately, I accidently taped over my earlier session at this track day that had a lot more EVO fun in it.

But here's just a quick video of me and svtfocusguy chasing an EVO8 out at Buttonwillow raceway last month. Unfortunately I have no idea what, if anything, the EVO had done to it. And before anyone starts blasting me, I am NOT trying to imply the "SVTF 0wNz d4 eVo8 y0!". If you believe that to be the case, I have some Arizona oceanfront property to sell you. Also, even though this was an intermediate driver's session, this driver definitely seemed a little... errr... green in the corners.

Here's the video... Right-click and save-as please... 25 megs

Unfortunately, its not the best video to gauge power comparisons as the EVO obviously got through the first corner earlier, and obviously on the gas, earlier than I did. But you can see that their low end torque definitely helped pull out of the corners initially, but once I got up the rev's up, I felt like I was able to avoid getting absolutely clobbered like before. Especially once I get rid of this stock clutch which slips like a sum-bish after each shift.

And now that Vortech has been able to beef up the mid range torque with the new 55 lb injectors and new tune, hopefully I'll be back with some "better looking" footage in the near future.

IHateRice Yes, exactly mofocus. He is even using the stock pistons and a "mildly ported" head. He is running something like 15-16 pounds of boost in that car; the 12.98 for what he has is impressive. With more aggressive cams, forged rods to keep the thing together, some tranny work, I bet he could see mid 12s. Putting under 10K grand into a car that only cost 10K that will hang with all sorts of things and still handle, last, and get decent milage is quite an achievement. But of course if you wanted an all out drag beast you can get a 5.0 for nothing. But as a quick, fun to drive, reliable, economical daily driver it's hard to beat a ZX3 with a Vortech.
04-12-2004 12:42 AM
mofocus considering the C-F-M vortech focus(which is a ZX3) has run a 12.9.......unless your rallying the EVO could well end up getting owned if the focus is in the right hands

Bluefocusx Speakin as i recently had and lost an evo =(

Your SVTF with a supercharger wont keep up off the start or from a roll. Well maybe if your a supreme stick driver and the guy with the evo cant shift to save his life.

If you really want to hang with evos, just take the car to tom. But then like its been said, your up around 25k for the cost of your car. And an evo is 30k... *shrug*

But yeah, my evo was the funnest goddamn car i have ever been in. Well besides my friends 67 stang.

Well said. To get anywhere near 250ish at the wheels NA on a Duratec, you're going to need to be running some seriously knarly, non-FI friendly cams, high compression, and lightweight-non-deto friendly pistons. All of which you'll be dumping some serious cash into obtaining, only to have to swap out afterwards.

turbo989 I plan to take evo's and wrx's with my duratec. After another few grand...I'll be pushing 250to the wheels all motor. After the turbo kit...I am expecting around a 200HP gain from the turbo. I am hoping for a 12second street car!
