Not retiring the car, just picked it up about 4 weeks ago. At this point I don't think I need the VCT solenoid, I just thought if it was reasonable, I would replace it while doing the vcg. Silly me.

Junkyard if you can find one, they rarely go bad unless sitting open in the rain.
Yeah, that's a car retiring price there isn't it? Exactly what they want, you to buy a new one. It's the Ford way, if you own same car 5 years they don't like it. Why the cars are full of nuisance breakage crap, to coerce you into a new one again and the quicker the better. The sh-tty design you see everywhere in them is no accident, it's intentional. Same with the parts condensation thing, you buy $200 part to get the $5 one you need now.

I was looking over this old thread because Im doing the vcg today. I deciced to call the local stealership to inquire about the current going rate for a VCT Solenoid. OK....are you sitting down? $602! Why didnt I get an SVT like 10 years ago? LOL!

|macdiesel||Cool. I think I'll leave it be and see if it leaks.|

|amc49||I'd be willing to bet that the bottom can spin. Solenoid plungers often do.|

For those that replaced the oring, I only see one but have read there are two? I replace the only one I saw. Do I need to seperate the top and bottom halves to get to another oring?
Also, the bottom part, with the oring, was able to spin around. Is this a sign of the vct on its way out? For those that purchased a new vct,is it one solid piece or does the bottom spin freely. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

|amc49||No torquing necessary on that cover, the bolts are positive stop bolts. You run them down until you feel them hit solid and stop there. Any force beyond that breaks the bolt since they are mild steel. I never use a torque wrench there at all.|
