focusfreak03 you would want to have longer gears so you can get the most mph out of each gear, oh course without going over board; you don't want a first gear that can do 80. i would say get gears that would let you run about 40, give or take, in first about65 or 70 in 2nd and about 90 in third. that should give you descent times at the track. take a look at this article about gearing.

ozan nice point; power band...

hýmmm.. i think answer all depends on the power output and the power band...

Scott_SVT I guess it would really depend on the powerband in your motor. If you have a very narrow window of high torque output, then a short ratio is your best bet.

If you have gobs of tourque all over the RPM range, the tall gears won't hurt so much.

Gearbox Question for Drag

which will make you faster in the drag for Manuel transmission;

(i am not talking about any kind of autotrans or sequential trans...)

to use a short rated gearbox say u finish all 5-6 gears at the end of 1/4mile ???


or

using longer rated gearbox like finishing 1/4 mile at 3rd gear??? less the gear change and less the wasted time by the changing gear...

which logic is true in the drag strip??
