2008 PIR Shelby Club Track day photos

Hey Jim,

Here are some stills I took on Tuesday. As usual, you were looking really smooth out there.

I have some pretty sizeable video files as well. Unfortunately, I learned that my camera has no sound, which is a bummer, as I would rate sound 2nd on my track day sensory priority list, preceeded by smell (tires melting, brake and clutch fluid boiling.. etc..) with sight a distant third !

Anyway, let me know how to send you several hundred megs of video.

My email is rritzman2 /a/t/ earthlink.net

Cheers,

Rob

FRRIBTR_Foci I would have loved to see the Saleen on the track. I have always wondered if they are just looks or do they really handle any better than say my car with the mods. I didn't make it out this year because my car was in the shop but I will try again next year.

A couple of pics from last year when my son and I went out with the SCCA club. I was bummed that this year they wouldn't allow him to ride along with the additional rules.....no passing on the back....urgs

Does this thread span 2 seasons?

Wow. Well it's nice to know there are a few other Focus owners abusing their cars at the Portland International Raceway. You all should definitely connect with the various other clubs if possible (the variety of vehicles makes things interesting). That track is deteriorating a little bit just now, with minimal maintenance being applied in front of some renovations apparently planned for the offseason (starts early this year in mid-September). It is still in considerably better condition that Pacific Raceways.

It was nice to see Paul out at a Lotus event earlier this year and just last week there was a blue U.S. Mk II (or whatever the 2005+ bodies are called) Saleen car running Nitrous Oxide in the novice group. Maybe we'll see some more of you folks out there once in a while! Keep the shiny side up.

Those are pretty good hp/tq numbers! I would be happy with that.

With just myself in the car, I got up to 115MPH on the back straight..

With a passenger along for the ride too, I see 105 to 110. I like to give rides, so those are the numbers I get most often.
Like Random... I look forward to some boost. The only problem I would see with added HP is that it may lower the simplicity of driving my SVT on the track. I mean, comming out of a corner, you just floor it, shift, floor it, shift... there is very rarely a reason to take it easy on the throttle comming out of a corner, because I don't have enough power to smoke a tire very much.

Just don't mistake that last point as me not wanting more power... that would be a lie ;)

The added power has made this a whole new car. You’re right when you say it will lower the simplicity. I was the same way, break for the turn, set up, and in almost every corner I was able to go full throttle immediately after setting up the turn.

Now that I can liquefy the tires all the way through first, I am going to have to learn how to take the corners all over again as I don't think full throttle will work anymore. This of course will just make track days even better. I felt so slow on the straights as the AC Cobras went blasting by. With my brakes, suspension, and new power I just might be able to say out in front of them.

Jmustang68 Now thats what I call service!! That must be why track days cost so much.

sfseals yea, I had a nightmare last night that I was out on the track digging through turn 6 heading for the back straight, when apparantly there must have been a good wreck somewhere up ahead. While I was still at top speed, the ambulance went cruising past me.. immediately followed by two hearsts and a fire truck...

Oh well. see you next year.

Jmustang68 Whats in the works Paul? Your painting your car?!?! I personaly would have purchased a turbo to get my car back running.. just me tho... lol

Well Rob, I was in what you call run group 5.... thats the run group where any Joe Schmoe can bring in their POS rig and spend some time tooling around on the track... we're not fast, but we sure are dangerous!! (hence the ambulance). hehehe

paulhaskew hehe, just wait Jim... about 2 months from now something dark and sinister will be tearing up the roads... ;)

sfseals Thanks Jim. Funny, I don't remember seeing the ambulance and the Datsun p/u racing with you out there. Um...which run group were you in again?

Jmustang68 Wow Rob, I took another look at the pictures of you at the hairpin and you were a machine out there. Really good lines.
