Simply amazing. First run I had my rear pressures set way to high and did a RWD style donut. After messing with my pressures a bit and when the sun came out they stuck like glue. Very happy.

MattMarks THis is a bit of a cross-post, but Spec Focus is moving from the Toyo RA1 (205/40/17 to the Toyo R888 (215/45/17) for 2008. The RA1's are being phased out by the end of the year.

well it appears the azenis are dominant here. I completly agree with all the above, must better sidewalls, better grip all around, but also they recquire not heat to still have good grip. They will work great in colder weather compared to other tires in the STS classes. As for the rain, simply drop them 2psi and you wont notice a difference. I have about 7 raincrosses already.
one thing to note, the 195/?/15's for whatever reason is a slightly different compound. I am trying out 205's now and besides the increased width, they handle heat much better. However they do get greasy and a spraying is necessary especially with a co-driver.
Bridgestone Potenza RE1-01?
yea not quite sure how to spell that whole thingy, but I will say these tires are a close competitor to falken. They do recquire a little heat before they reach max grip, but you will never need to spray them. I find they handle wet 90% of what falken can do, but still a good tire. As for dry, very little difference in grip. The downside of being to lazy to spray your tires after each run is that these tires dont offer that many sizes.

Overrall, falken wins, but I think im gonna go try the bridgestones next spring.

This is my first year( 4 months so far) on "R" compounds so I'm still adjusting to them, but WOW are these things amazing!!!
turn-in is instant ( almost tele-kenetic) & slaloms are bliss, I can hold the throttle more at higher speeds. times are dropping drasticly now
pressures are still high at 43 front 32 rear! but seem optimal for my set-up.. VERY HAPPY with these monsters!!!A+++

usage: Solo2 auto-x H-stock.

I had high expectations of these tires and they did not disapoint. Dry grip is incredible. These will drop many many seconds off your auto-x time (compared to street tires). They were even a second or 2 faster than my old Yoko Advans A032R. The sidewalls are super stiff (i run ~30psi Front 32rear, will little to no roll over). The tires have worn noticibly after every event. I expect to get less than 20 events out of them. however the tire wear is even. The tires are built with rounded shoulders so that a little bit of wear there wont expose a cord. I have noticed that they grip well when not fully warmed up. (although on cold rainy days, it seems impossible to get any heat into them). A must for the serious autoxer.

WD40 Tire: Falken Azeni RT-615
Size: 225/45/17
Usage: SCCA Solo2 AutoCross (STS class) and Daily Drivers.

General Observations:
They Completely blow the Hankooks (RS2) out of the water!
1) The sidewall is noticeably stiffer (even with the larger size).
Turn in response is greatly improved.
2) Treadwear is much better considering I've run several events with them already.
Currently the Azenis have almost 6,000 miles on them and still show 3/16" till they hit the wear bars.
IIRC, they started at 1/4" depth to the wear bars.

On Track Notes:
(again, comparing to the Hankook RS2)
1) These tires can be pushed much harder before they reach their limits.
2) Transitions from braking to turning, then heavy accleration are much better.
I'm not seeing nearly as much slip from the tires, just mega grip.
I also noticed I can get on the gas much sooner out of a turn, with little or no tire spin.
3) I'm running 4-6psi less in the front, and still don't have any problems with rolling the sidewall.
Most events have been at 40-42psi,
though a couple times I've ran them up to 44psi on a really tight course with lots of direction changes.

I'm expecting 10,000+ miles out of these tires for daily driving and AutoCross duties.
(That's about 1 set per season, as I run dedicted winter tires when the snow hits)
I've been rotating them after every event, and treadwear is extremely even between all 4 tires.

And before anyone asks due to the 225/45/17 size...
NO, they don't rub at all. (Stock springs and stock wheels)

JBrotbeck Falken Azenis RT-615
Price Paid: $78 each from Edge Racing
SCCA Solo STS class (8 runs) and limited street usage (under 300 miles)
1.5" drop (Steeda Springs) and Koni Struts, no ABS

This setup is my favorite so far of the four that I have tried. I need to play with air pressures a bit, but this past weekend I ran 38F and 35R and won STS. I don't know if it was the relatively tall sidewall or too low of a pressure, but they made ALOT of noise compared to the other size I have tried. I think from now on I am going to run 40F 37R.

EDIT: The noise went down a god bit since I wasn't over-driving and I bumped the pressures up to 40F 38R. Me likey alot.

SVTF can only run 17s in stock classes, as that's the only size that came on the car.

these were my first R comp tires and im hooked. It is the best valued mod u can make to lower ur autox times. These tires lasted me for over 1.5 seasons. so they have longevity going for them. They are much stickier than street tires, obviously, but i think that they arent as sticky as some of the other R comp tires out there. my next set of tires will be kumho v710, which are, I'm told, the uber R comp tire for autox (although i hear that the hoosiers are good too). THe Advans are a good step into R comp tires, if you are a new driver to autox and may still be a little rough on tires, these will do u well. Also, if you were rich, i suppose you could use these as your rain race tires as they have good tread pattern to evacuate water.

As a note on tire pressures, I set up my car differently from what the Tirerack article would suggest. I find that my focus (perhaps all foci) need higher pressure in the back tires than the front. I have about 39 in the front and 42 in the back. In my opinion this only way i can control the oversteer. (remember im in stock class and have little else that i can adjust).

Also i notice alot of reviewers ^^ have 17 inch wheels. was that a choice, or limited by what u had. For my race tires i went out and bought 15 wheels from the autowrecker, adn put the smallest diameter tire i could on it. My thought was tha by reducing the tire diameter, u increase ur gearing advantage and acceleration. Also with smaller wheels, u reduce rotational inertial which will help the car accelerate and brake. As my car could have came with 15" wheels, it was a legal wheel size for stock class. Just another POV for those considering tires and wheels for auto-x.

PS. i jsut realized that SVT cant fit their brake discs in a 15" wheel
