NIKO-007 Is it just a case of putting a new valve on and plugging it in or does it need setting up electronically as i read on the net somewhere?

NIKO-007 With the EGR plugged in and the EGR blanking plate removed i get a P0698 code.

pfsantos Its definitely possible. Try running without it. There may be a diff sensor for detecting egr flow or temp., and you're misleading it.

NIKO-007 I have also fitted a blanking plate though, now that my EGR is clean and possibly functioning normally could my banking plate cause these issues on my car?

Or do i need a new EGR and can i just fit it or do i need to have ford code it in as i have read somewhere ?

pfsantos Sounds like you do need a new valve.

Being a 5-pin, it's not as easy to test for a regular DIY'er. It probably opens a varied amount as requested by the ECU and may include a circuit to show position. If it was a 2-pin, you could test it by applying 12V + and a ground.

NIKO-007 There are 5 pins on my valve and 108000 miles thats 173000k on her.

I am thinking that as my valve was full of carbon then the actuator would have trouble moving and over time get damaged and so i need a new 1.

pfsantos How many pins on valve? How many (edit: km's) on engine?
Edit: when cleaned up, did it close completely? Any vacuum connections to it?
And u didn't say...when u had the block off plate, all symptoms were gone?

NIKO-007 I managed to get original clip off and back on, you just need to be brutal with it, i cleaned up the EGR valve, there were lots of carbon powdery deposits in there, it was a bout a quarter full of the stuff.

The same symptoms persist, car is hard to start and cuts out at any time, i get the code P0405, could my EGR valve actuator be damaged ?

The car runs just fine with the EGR unplugged.

Any help appreciated.
