Randall-R I've got about 1700 miles on my '13 Focus. Took a trip to drop someone off at the airport which is maybe a 160 mile round trip with about 10% city driving and 90% open highway. I saw a max of 41.1 at 65mph with cruise and the A/C running. This is in Florida {to Fort Myers} and the outside air temp was 91F. I anticipate all my stops and try to coast as much as I can while braking light and ealy. Of course this is off the trip computer. I just joined Fuelly.com and will be tracking all my future MPG. Can't wait till she's good and loose to see how much better it can get.

It's a US-wide issue, not just Iowa. Ethanol is being blended according to EPA rules now, not state laws. So it's federally mandated.

I have found the cars computer pretty reliable in determining mpg. Mine is usually .5 to 1 mpg more optimistic than my hand calculations. I reset it after every fill up.

I currently drive a 2005 Ford 500 and average 28MPG. My intent was to purchase a new vechicle that could get 40+. (I realize the stated MPG for the Focus is 37.) In regards to budget, I am not so concerned about that - other than, it would not make sense to spend $500 to get a 1MPG increase. My payback is 5 years. So any modification that can pay for itsself in five years - would be considered.

I usually average 24ish I would say about 75% city driving and the 25% highway driving I do is about half sitting in bumper to bumper traffic.
