OK RESOLVED! 3 things!
1 - the o-ring in the MAF broke. - (replaced o-ring)
2 - the hose to the PCV was dry rotted and broken - (Ford charged 9 bucks for the hose.)
3 - the PCV was clogged - ($28 for a new one.)
140 miles since the repair and no light!!

|SVT_DAEMON||ok so I just re-read the thread....I'm going to change the Idle Air Controller. She does idle like shit... It got a lot smoother after the new IMRC Actuator but still something is not right. At times she purrs beautiful then she sounds like shit.... I'll keep you posted|

Any update on this? I didnt see a true fix.
I am getting my car ready to sell and changed the acutator from tousley ford. I still get P1518 after driving the car for 3 miles since the swap. Brand new battery (3 weeks old) so I know theres no acid.
The car has been sitting under a cover in my garage for a year. installed new O2 sensor as well and nada. still P1518 with a new actuator

|AndrewM6097||I also just installed a spare IMRC I had from my svt contour on to the focus. Been working great. And theyre a dime a dozen at scrap yards.|

I was ready buy a new one if needed but thought I'd try the IMRC from a cougar. Still working. Of course these cars have several miles on them too so it's just a matter of time till a new one will be the only replacement.
I would check with them on warranty on the IMRC.

So I had this issue and bought a new IMRC module from tousley ford and replaced the old one. Everything was fine for about 7 months and now I have the same issue again
I cleaned the MAF and checked the DSI clip and its good. So this IMRC unit is basically new so it couldn't be coroded already so Im stumped...

|bbcobra||ok, I can verify that a IMRC from a cougar (99-02) is the same as the focus. The cable is slightly longer (2 to 3 inches). I just put one on mine and it has fixed my issues. The old IMRC actuated the lever slowly then snapped back to the long runner position after starting and I think this was the whole problem. Probably a timing issue in the activation of the IMRC circuit. The replacement box actuates much quicker and holds there just like it's supposed to. Taking off is so much better with the added touque on the low end now.|

Two pistons were bad. #3 looks more like a "D" as it torched the firewall side through the rings and ring lands. #2 is cracked 180* between the wrist pin. When I screw up, I don't pull any punches!
Sent a good piston off this week to Diamond. The new pistons will be significantly better than factory with much better rings, lighter, stronger and coated skirts and crowns. Of course they could be made out of diamonds and if the engine doesn't get fuel, it'll happen again.
I've got a source on cams and he's going to put a regrind on both for me, sent them off this week also.
Also have new IMRCM, t-stat housing from CFM with 180* stat, new water pump, ARP rod & head bolts, rod bearings (the factory bearings look perfect with 130,000 miles on them), fuel pump, sock & filter. Also bought 4 valves for the #3 chamber and will sand / polish the dinged up chamber. Changing the valves as a precaution.
I should have the cams shortly and the pistons will be 2-3 weeks.
The. I'll have Tom tune it while I drive it this time
