Another trick (after using the natural curve of the hose) is to put a twist on the hose to get it to do what you want it to do......
Along with the copper elbows, look at the PEX brass fittings (you can also solder the copper to the pex pieces to get what you need)

That unicoil would be great except for the absolutely stupid ridiculous price per piece, they have pretty much priced themselves out of sales as far as my concern. I can solder up a copper L or T for virtually same price or less and indestructible.
You can curve bulk hose to an extent by shaping it the first time it has hot fluid going through it, any slight kink disappears when pressure fills out the hose shape, once formed it will tend to stay that way. I've done it many times.

Gates makes a "Unicoil" that makes straight hose bendable without kinking. Just throwing it out there.

Yes, you must provide for absolutely no kinking, meaning you must sometimes figure out a new method of retaining hose when it runs somewhere other than where it did before. My heater core hoses now run closer to back of block rather than at the firewall hence the need for a strap to hold them away from exhaust pipe.
I use ATX cooler line for the smaller OD hoses which lead to another problem of cost. The hose is almost as high as the custom hoses are. I started patching in pieces of 5/16 or 3/8 steel brake line to make up much of the length then use the expensive cooler hose in 4-6 inch lengths at the ends to keep the cost down. The steel brake line can easily be bent to change direction too, and much cheaper than copper. Done correctly and retained with plastic wireties it looks good and neat, not trashy, just immediately evident it's not stock. I don't hesitate to drill another hole here or there in the upper radiator support for another tie strategically placed.
I use copper where I need it, the three way plastic manifold at top of radiator has been replaced with a copper part I soldered up, 3 of them running now on three cars and 100% trouble free. I also have soldered bigger copper to smaller to make hose reducers for when Ford changes hose sizes on the ends, I really hate that crap. The Contour has a 5/8 hose for part of the run, reducer, then 3/4 rest of the way. I do the same on Focus passenger side lower rad hose to reservoir, space it at the power steering supply hose coupler and it looks factory.
I've found on Focus It's helpful to have rubber only the last 2 feet from the plastic reservoir, that allows you to unbolt reservoir and flip it upside down on top of the PS unit, it makes plenty of room around the pass motor mount for alt and cam belt changing.
This stuff takes the place of my building the race cars in the '70s, easy and allows my creative urge some outlet. Nowadays I get as much out of doing it as cheap as I can, but solid as a rock and never breaks, it takes the place of 600 HP street cars.

I did the same thing...
I just bought the upper and lower radiator hoses (one of which was a weird 3 way) plus 1 molded hose that was something like 7/8 on one end and 1/2 on the other....
Another trick is that I used copper and brass plumbing elbows and reducers for the tight turns or if the hose had 2 different sizes (there are 2 hoses on the back side that change size on back side coupled to each other, I changed it to one hose of constant size)

|amc49||That's true, I've done the same on Contour and two Tempos, I don't put the factory bent hose on anything that'll accept straight bulk hose. The savings were high but now getting unbelievable.|
