The Focus DCT transmission doesn't have a temperature sensor, instead, it uses a "virtual sensor", an algorithm that monitors electrical energy to each of the 2 clutch actuators, vehicle speed, engine rpm, ambient temperature, etc. The virtual sensor monitors how you are driving and how the clutches are being used. The system will give several increasing levels of warning if it detects (or predicts) that the clutches are being used in a manner that could cause excessive heat.

some examples are "riding" the clutch while in traffic, or holding the vehicle still while on an incline. If the computer detects or predicts an abnormal usage of the clutches, then the driver will get increasing levels of warning, with the final warning to stop and let it cool down.

"Warning levels

The warning levels start with "Transmission Hot-Stop or Speed Up" plus a warning chime. The message may repeat with a slightly louder chime. If heat buildup continues, the next message is "Transmission Hot-Stop Safely."

If there's no suitable change in driver technique and temperature of the clutch continues to increase, the computer can induce some shift shudder and then display "Transmission Hot-Stop. Wait One Minute" (or subsequently, the same message with more minutes)."

What type of driving were you doing before you got the warning?

Ok I'm taking my car in today anyways they are giving me a rental. So going to have them look at multiple issues I'm having. Hopefully they can all be resolved. Or atleast the transmission issues.
