bullrunlover It started cutting out too, turns out the crankshaft sensor went out and a wire was shaved off next to the manifold, luckily it still has a warranty.

ErinP I just wanted to make sure you weren't talking about the manual tranny. I almost never hear complaints about it.
Wanted to make sure that hadn't changed!

Sorry your auto is bad...

bullrunlover It's both, a automatic 6-speed transmission with an automatic clutch, instead of a torque converter, found in almost all automatic transmissions.

ErinP Transmission and clutch? Is this a manual or auto?

bullrunlover I've had nothing but issues these last few months with mine. It's a '13 with 29xxx miles and the transmission and clutch are definitely on their last legs, and on the way home yesterday the motor started cutting out on me 2 times and the display suddenly told me that an engine fault had occurred. It began to run on 90 horsepower instead of 160 and would not keep up to speed without me pushing the gas harder. I'm highly disappointed in Ford as they will not help us with this car, I'm not gonna buy another one, I guess it's time for a Chevy....

Pennut Don't recall if I posted on this thread yet. Just took my Focus in last week to have them inspect the under body components. Wasn't having any problems. I check things out BEFORE I have any problems. Everything was good.

I've had my Focus 40 months now & almost 52k. In the 1st year of ownership, I had the steering wander on the highway as some owners have had. It was fixed under warranty and since I've had zero problems. No DCT chatter/shudder. No body/trim creaks. It's been a rock solid car.

Total spent at the dealer so far after 3+ years? Under $400. The most expensive thing I had done was a cooling system flush for about $160.

ErinP The '03s have both been extremely reliable.
A fan here, struts there, brakes and TIRES (both of them absolutely eat tires!) but really, I'd have to say that for 150k and 200k+ miles, I think we've been pretty fortunate.

As good looking and fun as it is, the reliability and cheap maintenance of its predecessors is the real reason we got our '13

NoobFocusOwner 2013 with a TON of electrical issues in the year that ive owned it. wiring harness has now been replaced 4 times. brake and traction system failure twice. ive had Ford Corp helping me out and recently went ahead (since my warranty is 5k miles away from being done) and filed for federal lemon law protection.

Ford IMMEDIATELY stepped up and extended my bumper to bumper for 7 years. regardless of the outcome of the lemon law filing.

this was my first brand new ford (86 miles at time of purchase) and after all of the electrical I swore off Ford and was going to be done. I am a big believer in them now after they way they came to the plate and made things right.

coldbear To 7600 miles. Have you ran a high performance injector fluid through the gas tank? I mean a Lucas or FMC. Sounds like you aren't getting fuel at the hit. Purchase a K@N air filter with a tune. With the cleaner in the tank run the hell out of it until it responds to your wants. Listen, these engines love to rev and run. When they aren't getting air or fuel they'll lay down on you. Try my suggestions, you'll love it.
