Miller88 The "control blade" rear suspension will toe out and give itself negative camber as it is compressed. If you're on worn out original springs in the rear, it's going to toe out pretty bad.

mac.mogul Yeah I mean if you're driving any 14 year old car without suspension modifications, you're going to get a sloppy ride.

sailor Wearing on the inside could prob. use an alignment.

When wheels go over a bump tire contact with the road is reduced or eliminated. How closely the tires follow the bumps depends on tire/wheel weight & suspension/shock stiffness & matching.

Heavy wheels/tires don't stay in contact as well, worn/mismatched shocks don't damp movement as well so the tire doesn't follow the surface as well.

You'll notice more movement with excess toe in (wear to the inside tire edge) because one side is still in contact pushing to the side while the other is in the air.

IF it feels "loose" in the rear whenever turning (smooth road), one or more rear bushings is giving up allowing toe in to vary because of the side loading from the turn. (rear wheels steer themselves back & forth since they aren't held securely)

Sway bar bushings only affect roll of the car & tire loading in a turn. No large handling effect until turning hard enough that tires are starting to "slip".

phathead007 I have a 2000 zx3 and it is doing the same thing... only on curvy roads does it do it.. can be going down the highway and it doesnt do it at all. was thinking sway bar bushings because there is no movement in the tires at all. although the left rear is worn on the inside. any suggestions?

mac.mogul It seems like maybe the shocks are worn out.

My Mustang would do the same thing because it had a solid rear axle, but if your shocks are worn out, you're going to end up with the same problem.

If you've got as many miles as you say you do, I would recommend a full suspension refresh down to the bushings.

bringler26 I think what he is referring to is more like a wiggly butt. if your rear tires are hopping over bumps through corners I would advise not hitting such large bumps...

This feeling can be exaggerated if you lift of the gas or brake hard while cornering. Also known as lift induced over steer.

my_beautious_ZX3 x2 on the rear suspension & alignment suggestions. Although, even with new Eagle GT's, new suspension, and fresh alignment, I still get some rear wheel hop in bumpy corners.

OP - some degree of hop is just a fact of life with the lightweight rear-ends of a compact hatchback.
