rebelx Oil analysis:

I'm going to take their recommendation and run the current oil for 10k miles. I'll do another analysis when I get there.

I originally wanted to do a comparison between the syn blend and syn oil, but I don't think I'll be doing that if the syn blend is holding up as well as it is (although, granted, it is a new car, so that might have something to do with it).

rebelx Blackstone oil analysis came in today! Travel time via First Class longer to arrive via USPS than Blackstone took to analyze the oil.

I'll post the results later tonight once I have a chance to redact and upload the image. So far, looking good!

RonMaiden Since I only put about 7000 miles a year on the car I just change it every spring with factory syn blend.

I run full synthetic in my 4Runner and Subi and those both see less than 4000 miles a year and they get changed when the Focus does just because a year's time is enough no matter the miles.

Probably works OK, but what's the point: you still have to get under the car and remove the aeroshield to get at the oil filter anyway.

rebelx I just submitted my oil for during my recent oil change for analysis to Blackstone Labs. I'll keep everyone posted when the results come in.

Yep - one of our fleet vehicles blew an engine at 51,000 miles. Meticulous records proved that the maintenance was fine, using semi-synthetic oil, but it was just a bad engine.

It happens.

lowflyn Meh. I don't keep cars for resell value. Won't be worth anything when I get rid of it. Just picked up the deal of the week from autozone for my car. Rolled over 85k yesterday so time for another. It took 16k miles for the oil change notice to pop up last time. I don't trust it.

got3fords For what it's worth, and I don't care what you do, but every oil change and every service done at the dealer is logged so that potential future owners can see all the service records via Carfax or similar website.
As far as which oil, I am very satisfied with going about 5k on the blend. With the low cost of The Works and frequent rebates, plus the vehicle history record keeping of service, plus getting the sneakers rotated for best tire mileage, it's not worth my time to do it myself. That's time better spent on the river!

sailor The Factory Fill of Syn Blend is adequate for all normal use.

But don't spoil the Fun of all the long discussions like this one on what might be "best".
