While I'll admit that "hub centric" has more to do with alignment than load bearing, I just posted a note on another thread warning that most wheels sold as "stud aligned" are usually of lower quality, often with a lower weight rating than stock wheels.
No argument here that careful installation of decent wheels can avoid the issues in many cases.
Ran a decent aftermarket BMW wheel on a Fiat many years ago, didn't know much more at the time than that "they'd bolt up" when I tried 'em on... Hub fit pretty well, but the bolts were off a bit... Tightened carefully in rotation, had no issues.
Only recently did I happen to note that those wheels were 4x100, while the Fiat should have had 4x108 like our Focus uses!
At this point, all I can do is write it off to "young, stupid, and lucky", while advising others to avoid my mistakes!

Stop using plastic rings and you won't have a problem

the wheels vertical load is not carried by the hubcentric rings or the studs. The vertical load of the wheel is carried by the friction between the hub face and wheel. The studs are only loaded in tension, to provide this friction force. I calculated out once that each wheel has over 14000lbs friction force. ie. it would take 14000lbs load on a wheel to cause it to slip against the face. therefore even if you did have rings, there would be negligible load on them. They really only just centre the wheel.
I autocross on wheels without hub centric rings. they tend to melt when the brakes get hot. i've had no probs with no rings.

I'm sure for most people's DDs it doesn't matter if their wheels are lug centric. From an engineering perspective, though, it makes a lot more sense to put that load on the bigger hub rather than put an increased cyclic stress on the significantly smaller lug nuts.

|TerryB||Stock center bore is 63.4mm. I use a larger center bore on my car. I've never used ring adapters. I just snug up each lug a little at a time and the wheel self centers. I've been doing that for 5 years with no problems.|

|YellowJellyBean||You're fine with the offset, but I think you're going to want some hub rings. I'm pretty sure the Focus bore is smaller than 72.6.|
