tmittelstaedt click the yellow button that says new thread. you said you sprayed deodorant and it wouldn't start?!? that's why I am thinking timing. I guess that was for a starting fluid? WD40 probably works a lot better as a starting fluid for diesels

dlr47 Sorry I wasn't sure how to start a new thread!!
I don't think the cams are timed wrong and that wouldn't stop the diesel coming through.

tmittelstaedt please don't resurrect old threads, start a brand new one. Do you really think that the folks from 2 years ago are still checking this thread, it is not even the same engine? And in any case, if a newly rebuilt engine won't start I would assume the cams are timed wrong and recheck that.

dlr47 2008 1.6 tdci, recently had the turbo replaced, engine stripped and cleaned as it had oil caked onto everywhere, the exhaust was dry, after 2 days fuel of driving it made a loud noise which sounded like something knocking, which got faster as i reved the engine, the engine has been stripped yet again, nothing obvious!!!
engine rebuilt but now, turns over but will not run, like as if its out of fuel, tried spraying deoderant and it tried fireing but obviously didnt run, tried bleeding many many times,fuel going into the pump but then back out through the return, there is no engine cut out switch as on some models, ive pulled the switch diesel solenoid switch off and tried testing it but cant tell if its operating or not, please only had the car 8 months and its been in bits for the last 2

Mile30 I went to start my car last September and it turned over for a second and conked out. Every time I after that it did the same dumb chit... 'till I figured it out last night.

LdSiii Hello, I just had a similar problem, that w/ the help of FF was able to get my car running.

Check the fuel pump shut-off switch, it's located in the passenger side kick panel. Make sure the ignition is OFF. Remove the cover plug in the trim press the reset button, turn the ignition to the ON position (I did a 10 count) and then return the ignition to OFF. BTW, this info is on page 214 of the owner's manual if you would like to see it in black and white like I do. Now try to start the car, it may take a few cranks for it to fire, and if it does it will more than likely run rough until the air is purged from the system.

pasta check to see if u have spark just take off 1 of the wires from spark plug crank engine hold wire with pliers that are insulated of coarse so you dont get zapped

whynotthinkwhynot Check the coil pack plug-in connector- those are known to fail sometimes so that the wires will pull out of the plug.

You should also check the negative battery terminal to be sure that the main ground and the two small supplemental grounds are connected to the terminal securely. Pull and wiggle on those. It would be most likely to be the little ground wires instead of the large one because if there was a problem with the big one- it wouldn't crank.

Next time you try starting it, make sure everything that makes sound is turned off, then turn the key from OFF to ON and listen before cranking. Verify that the fuel pump is working. It is possible that whoever did the fuel pump didn't connect the fuel cut-off switch completely, or didn't push the fuse down completely. If the fuel pump is not working, then I would check those immediately. The fuse location is detailed in the owner's manual.

Red Jay 918 check your spark plugs to see if their good..or vacuum hoses too....or even some ground connections. i was working on an old Chrylser Cirrus once and was letting it run outside for a few minutes to burn off the remaining oil off the block. i noticed there was a loose wire and moved it slightly and the whole engine just died and cut off and wouldnt start unless that connection was making contact with the part of the engine it was bolted to. just an idea.
