SecretMommy Hey Guys new to the forum

I'm currently looking at a 06 ZX5 5 speed. Its got all hwy miles It still got pretty good get up and go. I've been researching on this site and ive found nothing but positives about this Model of Focus. (any last warning b4 i buy it?)

I intend to get into winter ice racing as my buddy is big into rally cross and i co pilot for him (thou im mostly legal weight lol) Its a tonne of fun and there are lots of casual racers.

Im as amateur as it comes to cars, Im not dumb i do all my basic maintenance but no major repairs.

Hope to become more of a contributor down the road, any advice now would be appreciated. Thanks

[ChaosweaveR] With my job, I've seen some tired and abused cars bought by my shop.

Rentals I've always feared buying, but one thing I know, a manual car 9 times out of 10 will probably not be an ex-rental car. Even leases, I've seen people just run their cars into the ground and not care.

whynotthinkwhynot No, dealers get leased cars returned to them. Some big leasers like Budget have to keep a certain number of cars even if all the cars pass the dealer's inspection. Those end up going to auction, or sold on Budget's lots. Those cars could be turned down for any number of reasons: excessive damage, excessive mileage, etc. That's why, if you look on Ebay, you'll see a good number of 2012 Focis with 30k+ mileage for sale. The worst ex-rental cars go through auction, then end up on used car dealer lots where they try to get the most out of you for them.

The whole rental/lease program is a big automotive meat grinder. They just chew up cars and spit them back out on us.

Yeah, my fashion-minded coworker was shocked when I explained to him that his nice black G6 was the same thing as my grandpamobile. He still doesn't really believe me, I think. But it could be worse...this was built on the same chassis:

gondorian The ford dealer by me has a new 2012 5spd for 15,500. If you look around you may be able to find a deal on one if they are eager to move the old 2012 stock.

[ChaosweaveR] An ST for $21K? Damn.

My credit isn't great, but I have a feeling my loan max is going to be around the $16-$17K mark if I'm lucky. Good point about the 3rd gens w/five speeds, but troublesome cars, the dealers really just auction off the ones they buy back?

whynotthinkwhynot OH, there is a brand new ST with 180 miles on it for sale for like $21k in our Focus marketplace. You could get a bank to write you a loan for that if you have the credit. It's a manual transmission. It might not be a bad idea to get one of these instead. 3rd Gen owners are still waiting on some important performance options- like a flash programmer. The ST, on the other hand, is pre-modded. I would also expect more parts for this car to hit the market before parts for the more common car hit the market.

2013 ST in our Cars for Sale

Here's your base 5 spd, but in AZ.

whynotthinkwhynot Well, not NEEDING a car is the best time to look for one. Keep saving your money, and one will appear eventually. Your problem is that most people who purchase a 3rd gen with a 5 spd are planning on keeping it. What we are seeing "used" on the market right now are cars that were sold back to the dealer because of problems, and, most commonly, rentals returned at the end of the lease period.

Trust me, a 3rd gen SE sedan w/ a five speed is what I really want, but it's just a matter of finding one. I'd settle for the 2nd gen SES I linked in the OP, though.

Yeah, the Pontiacs had the better looks even though mechanically they're the same for the most part. The better of the N-bodies with my car were definitely the Grand Am and Oldsmobile Alero compared to the Malibu.

Even with the Epsilon chassis Malibu like you had there, the G6 was just the more attractive model. What's funnier is that the Saab 9-3 was based off that chassis for awhile as well.
