bones33 Would you, or anyone, have a picture of the tool? It'd be easier to reverse-fabricate one if I knew what the original looked like. Thanks

Egz I used to own one. Man, that takes me back several years.

If you are handy with tools, you could make your own. Just have to make the indexing plate, and modify a wrench to have an indicator.

euro-bred i wouldnt consider them disposable, just simply that the only company that made the tool folded. most people wont mess with internal mods like that and wont mess with timing adjustment. and most people who are willing to do those mods are more willing to throw down a few extra bucks for fully adjustable gears. but it does suck for people like us though, so i can sympathise

bones33 Thanks euro-bred, I guess we are solidly in the realm of disposa-motors where rebuilding and modding only last a few years after production ceases. Id'a thunk the Duratec had a strong enough following. Oh well.

I guess it's time to figure out how to fab my own tool with a protractor or something. Challenges are good for the ol' noggin.

Last chance. Anyone else know where these can be found?

euro-bred i know exactly what youre talking about. i dont think it can be found anymore, unless someone sells it used. otherwise, youll just have to settle with the adjustable gears

bones33 Nope, that's not it iether. Please read carefully my posts on this.

The tool I'm looking for provides a range adjustment of the stock gears.

Gee, maybe we have moved past modding the Duratec motors already?

bones33 Thanks for the suggestion, but nope. At least I couldn't find it. They had the tool for zeroing in the cams, and adjustable gears but not the tool for adjusting the stock gears to stock OR alternate locations.

The MM kit was like half the price of adjustable gears, did not add rotating mass, or additional screws to back-out or other additional possible failure modes over stock.

Is the cam adjustment tool still available?

Searching, I found that the cam adjustment tool was available from Marcy Motorsports but they appear out of business. Does anyone know if there is another current source of the tool?

Or, if there is knowledge on how to make a tool, does anyone have info on this?

The MM spec for a stock 2.3 cam is -4/-6 for a 6hp 5tq gain. Any idea how much retard is tolerable until contact? I'm looking at experimenting with adding some atkinson intake reversion to boost mpg so I may want to go up to -20* or so on the intake. NOTE: I know it will kill power but that's not the point of this experiment.
