I would agree with your hesitation on a 2017 Focus because I have read posts here for 4 years now hopeful that 2013 would be better, then 2014, etc,etc,etc

That being said I currently own a 2016 F150 bottom of the line cheapo and couldn't be happier. It runs as nicely and reliably as my 2015 VW GTI, which has the wet dual clutch.
My wife drove the GTI two weeks and didn't even know it wasn't a normal transmission.

I have also owned an 83 & 90 mustang, german ford fiesta, two escorts and 2 german Capris and they were reliable and great

But on the Focus DCT issues, hundreds of posts and a few years later, I have never seen people spending 20K plus be so poorly treated.
Wishing you all the best in your case with Ford, and please post as much as the law allows you too, for the benefit of all the other owners here.

sailor Once again, wish ya luck - remember that our objection at the time wasn't quite as described.

It was the Spamming of the Forum with advertising posts, as if you were a flack for the law office, that forced our hands. Multiple identical/near identical posts fall into the prohibited 'spam' category, along with using them to advertise any product or service. Even paid sponsors aren't allowed to do that.

A single mention, as in a reply or review, doesn't fall into the same category.

More detail would still be interesting, if you were part of an initial filing group you'd likely do better than any added later. Qualified as a 'lemon' by itself wouldn't get full sticker for example, but instead original deal price minus mileage adjustment plus some financing adjustment if applicable.

Special offers in settlement might add up better, such as an allowance against a replacement such as the Fusion mentioned.

Cheers for ya, sounds like you will end up with a resolution making you a lot happier.

sjfishon this is a very old problem,, as Sailor can tell you we have been addressing this clutch/trans shudder issue for a long time,, any way, i did join a class action law suit against ford, well over a year ago, i am very excited;; just today i received the forms to e-sign,, ford lost;; if i understand what was sent to me, ford is forced to qualify my 14 focus as a lemon. now ;understand i am not making this up. in the next few weeks ford will contact me, i will;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; get my sticker price back, and there are also some other benefits ford is ordered to pay me... my case is finalize, and i don't know how some of you can get this also. i was told once i cant name the law office involved, but if you search i bet you can find it.. anyway,, i am looking forward to a new fusion.. good luck all Steve

sailor Got involved with FF long before the MkIII, when I only had a little time on weekends to check in here.

Now I've got more time to spend with it, and ended up helping out as a Mod here, so long time interest/involvement with a lot of mechanical items can be applicable.

Nowadays it should be a LOT easier to pull up TSB's and other info. that might apply, when I worked as a mechanic/service mgr for cycles long ago you really needed to read all the various info. as it came in to remember if there was something that might apply.


BTW - Corporate culture is often bass ackwards from other 'common sense'. Doing things by the book is important, and anything that can't be fixed now they don't want to know about - just makes someone look bad.

Once a job is done it doesn't matter if 9 of 10 items weren't required, just matters if it's over.

I'm backwards to that, too used to other cultures where reviewing what went right/wrong is important as a learning tool to avoid future problems. Most dramatic version is years involved with Skydiving, where magazine & local reviews of any incidents are normal. "Incident Reports" was the first thing to read in the Monthly Magazine, critique what was done & what the reports recommended be done. Potentially saves your butt, or that of your friends.

What went wrong with cars is a tougher guessing game, sometimes we can come up with useful ideas/information.

Exactly Sailor, exactly. It could well be that this was the post I saw, because it's exactly what I did.

The thing that puzzles me is the apparent inability of the local dealer guys, in my case not fools, to find this information. I would think that Ford would want all of it's dealers' service folks to have full access to all of the problems which have come to the factory's attention, what the symptoms are, what to look for and what the fix is.

I don't have modern experience with any other car company so i don't know if this is typical to contemporary industry. If it is, and I had any influence at Ford, I would get on top of this straight away. It's not too swift to have to figure out a problem yourself, fix it yourself, and then realize that the dealer guys somehow couldn't get on top of this very simple thing - and it was on their TSB system the whole time.

Another puzzling thing was when I raised this problem with one of the Ford people here, she did all that she apparently was allowed to do, turn it over to the area factory hand-holder. I asked him to help me find a Ford dealer with guys who were sharp with diagnosing the difficult ones. I told him I'd drive to anyone within 200 miles and stay in a motel while the problem was attacked at my own expense if he could suggest one.

Nothing doing. If he knew a dealer like that, he wouldn't tell me. Instead I got the sort of "we feel your pain" routine and of course he agreed that factory would pay for whatever was needed, and they did. I was embarrassed by the clutch and tranny computer replacement because I was pretty sure that this wasn't where the problem was - connectors or wiring or sensors. I didn't want to waste Ford's money.

in my driving career, I've had 3 great cars - at least as far as driving experience. 1968 BMW 2002, 1979 SAAB Turbo-900 5 door with special wheels and tires and custom 5 speed gear box, and this humble 2013 Focus, best handler since the SAAB dissolved from old-age.

I suppose this explains why I didn't give up. I was really worried that I'd get rid of the Focus and then not like the replacement.

So there it is, far more than any sane person would want to know about my experience.

AND BEST OF ALL IT'S INTERMITTENT. I AM BEGINNING TO SUSPECT BAD ELECTRICAL OR DATA CONNECTION SOMEWHERE.
It may be that this problem is not interesting, but since I fixed it, I thought I'd share what the actual problem was, what the dealer did, and what I did.

I took it in with a written description much like the above. Service managers at dealer were quite sharp, agreed that it sounded like a connector problem and thought it might be within the clutch or the transmission computer, so they replaced both at no cost to me.

But alas, that wasn't it and the first hot morning after a hard rain, i was just barely able to drive it to dealer, one of service reps tried to drive it, agreed that there was something wrong, but I was backed up with other projects and drove it away, and as always after about ten miles it recovered. later in the week, I set out on our counterclockwise circumnavigation of the US. During a lay day in NJ. I did more googling and found a note from someone who'd had very similar experience. His suggestion was that I closely inspect a cable which came from the rear of the car and was run up the front of the driver's side of the engine.

Sure enough, there was a very sharp boss on the intake manifold (very hard possibly carbon fiber filled plastic) which had worn through the cable (harness, really) which was wrapped in electrical tape apparently at the factory. Two of the wires in this cable no longer had insulation where it had been worn off by contact with the sharp boss and were close enough to each other that they may have been shorted when it was really wet.

i was able to get some tape on them, and then improve the electrical tape covering of the cable and armor the whole thing with something called 'loom'. This was last September and there has been no further problem with lack of power hot morning after a big rain.

So i am still happy with my Focus, its nice that it no longer has this problem and I will buy another one sometime, maybe before this one gets to 175,000 miles. The only thing that I really don't like on the car is the speedometer which because of my eyes and height cannot be read. It's terrible.

i see the hot version of this car has much more readable gauges. Sigh.

Adeblas73 Ayer se presentó la falla de tcm, en mi focus 2014 con 40mil km. Considerando que ya le habían echo la actualización en octubre 2015 cuando recibí la carta anunciando el problema. Lo lleve a cever Azcapotzalco. Lo atenderán sin costo pero como mínimo se tardarán 20 días. Solicite un auto de remplazo de lo cual se negaron. Entonces metí mi reclamo en planta Ford, número de reporte 8841673. Solicitando el auto de remplazo mientras es atendido mi auto, quedaron de darme respuesta en 48 Hrs. Creen que si me ayudaran ???
