I also know state law will only allow 35% or lighter. My question is, if I went with a 20-25% tint, would there be a big difference that a cop would easily be able to know its too dark. Ideally I want something darker then 35% however don't want it so dark a cop can't see in and know just by looking that it is illegal. Any suggestions as to what percentage I should get done?

Heres the pictures

I'm not very good at this auto photography thing and I was using a camera phone but here they are. Tried to get some close ups so you can see the seam along the edge of the dot matrix at the edge of the windshield.

As you can see it really only darkened the window down to about that of the stock front door windows. Any questions ask away.

This shop charges 299 for the windshield and 599 for everything else. Very expensive yes, but after talking with the owner for a bit it was the only place in town I felt confident leaving my brand new vehicle with.

As for performance I haven't been in another car with high end tint so I can't compare it to the 3m product. Since the windshield/dash area appeared to be the source of most of my discomfort I figured I'd go with the best I could get on that one and maybe just do ceramic on the rest. The fact that few shops tint windshields on a regular basis (few carry suitable tints for the windshield) influenced my decision to go with a shop that does it on a regular basis. The deep windshield/dash area on the mk3 focus no doubt makes it a trickier install.

Random other info on the subject: I was quoted 400 for everything but the windshield for wincos IR from several places. Wanted good heat rejection but the wincos but I've read about and seen pics of a slight haze which turned me off to them, along with Madico having a somewhat dubious reputation compared with its competitors in the high end tint market. Mainly though the demeanor and vibe I got at these shops caused me to shop around some more till I found one I was comfortable with. Though I'm contemplating cheaper ceramics for the rest I'd rather go spend 600 to do the rest in photosync than 400 for wincos, no contest.

I'll report back with some pictures and midday driving impressions tomorrow. So far I am enjoying the tinted windshield, driving when the sun is low in the sky is definitely much easier on the eyes and will definitely be nice in the winter months when the sun sits much lower in the sky.

Parked facing directly into the setting sun yesterday evening and ran in the store for some things. Came back out. Non tinted passenger side window very warm to the touch, windshield (which was getting hit head on mind you) cool to the touch barely warmer than ambient temp.

On the way home from work today I noticed that when changing directions relative to the sun I'd feel much warmer when getting hit with sunlight from the sides than through the windshield, front passenger side included.

If it wasn't parked next to another focus you'd never notice the film was on there. Darkens the windshield to be nearly identical to the stock front door windows, VLT wise.

Any questions lemme know. I plan to give the car a wash in the next few days and try to get some pics. Debating whether to do the photosync all around or just plain old ceramic, only because its so dang expensive.

RonMaiden I like my privacy so I can sing and pick my nose in private and you can gawk at the pretty ladies without them noticing.

Mostly my tint is there for heat rejection and looks but I like it dark in the instances I might be doing something in my car and I don't want to advertise to the general public.

I don't care as much as far as privacy....I really don't see a point to privacy in a car. You shouldn't be keeping valuables in it overnight in the first place if that's the goal. And as far as personal privacy....privacy from what? People watching you drive? People watching your family ride in a car? I just don't get it.
Asthetics. For my taste, dark windows look really good with light color cars, like the white hatch above.

Otherwise, I'm with you. I'd rather have a better performing higher quality light film then a cheap dark film as far as practicality goes.
