SVT616 I have exactly same plm right now, and a guy told me if my crank position sensor went bad, then it will never fire up...

sbc17 Just pulled the valve cover off and pulled the VCT solenoid out. It looks like it's fine to me lol.

There was oil puddled on the exhaust side, I'm assuming that's normal? Probably just the way it's sitting in the driveway and it's not able to drain back down.

I ran it for like 2 min Friday and it was throwing a code. Not sure what it is yet because I don't have access to a reader. I'm trying to borrow one from a friend. So maybe it's finally spitting out a code that could lead to answers?

sbc17 Dumb question and probably gonna get flack for asking lol. But, can I take a standard zetec and bolt it into my SVT? If it's possible I'm pretty close to doing that at this point so I can drive and enjoy the darn thing.

sbc17 Oh, and I washed it for the first time in years. Still cleans up nice but it needs a clay bar and some polish lol

Just found this video might help a little bit

Hey sorry to get back to you so late. Been busy and haven't paid attention to the forums.

I am positive that the motor is timed correctly. I messed with that for a few hrs and checked 3 times before trying to crank it. The car doesn't throw any codes but the rattle is loud. I'm thinkin I may have a lifter "bucket" that's not in spec anymore causing the rattle. But thanks for the video!

As for the VCT, not sure if that's part of the issue. When I pull it out will I be able to tell easily if it's all gunked up?

The rattle seems like it's coming from the right side of the motor, specifically cylinders 3, 4. I drove it around for 5min or so and the rattle is there but seems to disappear when under load which points more to a rod knock but the sound is definitely upper end this time. The car seems to "pull" normal(don't worry I only went to 3k, nothing crazy) and doesn't bog down at all. It's weird and I'm still baffled.

I may check on it tonight before I put the car in storage for the winter. But if not, then it will happen when it comes back out in the springtime.

Thanks for the tip man!

sbc17 I drove about 1.5hrs away to a dealership that had the correct bolt for the tensioner. They had 4 so I bought them all lol

But anyway onto the update.

Last night I put the new bolt in and then re-times the car. I checked it 3 times with the tools and it was still good. So I put it all back together. I fired it up around 9 last night. Turned over maybe 2 times and fired right up! Felt really good to have that finally happen. So I let it idle for a few minutes and then the top end rattle I had last year came back. ☹️ I am clueless at this point and rather annoyed that it's making the same noise. I was smart this time around and took a quick video lol. Anyone know what it could be? It's not throwing any codes. Is the VCT not getting enough oil? I was thinking late last night that maybe the metal shield on the underside of the valve cover is loose? I'm at a complete loss of what else to check or do.

sbc17 Hey, so I worked on the car yesterday for most of the day. I re-adjusted the timing since it was slightly off. I'm hoping that was my non starting issue.

When I put the tensioner back on I over torqued the bolt for it. Does anyone know the specs on that bolt? I'd like to replace it just to be sure it doesn't break while running. [emoji15]

sbc17 UPDATE from Saturday:

The car is currently in one piece now so yay! We got everything all hooked back up and it looks like a car now lol.

We tried starting it and it turns over alright but it doesn't want to fire. So we messed around with it for a while still with no luck. We pulled one of the plugs and we discovered that the engine was flooded at that point. Whoops[emoji51]. We tested spark for one of the plugs and it was fine. Still have to check the other 3. So it's either bad plugs/wires maybe, or possibly low compression? All of us are rather confused about this. Any ideas from you guys?

That's where the car sits tho. I'm so happy that it's finally back together! Saturday left me a bit frustrated but mostly confused as to why it won't fire. So I'll be diagnosing that some more this week. With any luck it will be running right once we figure this out!

More pictures of it assembled because why not?

Look it already has an ST buddy! Lol
