sailor yep - documentation of the swap would be the most helpful for selling the car in the future.

unknown or altered mileage without SOME documentation to back up the story is a deal breaker, while documented repairs can help make the sale....

iminhell It is Federally illegal to 'roll back' and odometer --> http://uscode.house.gov/download/pls/49C327.txt

Quote:
A person may not -
(1) advertise for sale, sell, use, install, or have installed,
a device that makes an odometer of a motor vehicle register a
mileage different from the mileage the vehicle was driven, as
registered by the odometer within the designed tolerance of the
manufacturer of the odometer;
(2) disconnect, reset, alter, or have disconnected, reset, or
altered, an odometer of a motor vehicle intending to change the
mileage registered by the odometer;
(3) with intent to defraud, operate a motor vehicle on a
street, road, or highway if the person knows that the odometer of
the vehicle is disconnected or not operating; or
(4) conspire to violate this section or section 32704 or 32705
of this title.

What are you doing with the old engine, and why are you changing it if you don't mind me asking?

elsolo If the donor car is equipped exactly the same, I suppose one could swap the computer and PATS ring, and lock cyl and keys. But then when the car is sold, the odometer doesn't match the chassis mileage, so if you don't check that box on the title, you are potentially committing odometer fraud.

As a buyer, I would be satisfied with a couple pics of the engine swap.

whynotthinkwhynot NO, but you can get a sticker, or put a note in the back of the owner's manual stating the date that you changed the motor. In this day and age of cell phone cameras, you can document the experience.

What are you doing with the old engine, and why are you changing it if you don't mind me asking?
