whynotthinkwhynot That's why I recommend that everyone have their alternators rebuilt locally- regardless of vehicle. Not only is it cheaper sometimes, but it's also much more reliable. Big companies use super cheap parts on the rebuild so that they can sell you 4+ alternators before they start to lose money on their lifetime warranty. Small local shops don't do this because a warranty repair takes away immediate income from them.

FLYLOW well 7:40am today i finally got her back! 2 alternator and 2 bats later she is up and running like a champ... or so it seems for now!

thanks everyone and thanks sleepyboy for all the detailed help! thanks j.lule2003 (member here, other red svt) and thanks mike (mechanic)

plans for her? yes! im selling her as soon as i have free time to list her locally on craigs/ebay/where ever!

advise! DONT BUY IMPORTANT PARTS LIKE THIS FROM OREILLY AUTO PARTS, they suck, their service and employees are ghetto as fk, takes them 3 days to get a part from Dallas to Houston and their so called fomoco original parts are CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1st alt i got said 100% original and tested all over the place, it didnt even look like the original alt and 10 mins after intalling it all the problems started coming out, it fked up my 4 month old bat too

lesson learned, cheaper may result in more expensive later down the road. if you need important mechanical parts go to a FORD dealer

svt butt secks, notice my front left rim (ontop) i hate railroad crossing especially in a 45mph zone, yup fked wheel. another wallet rape coming next week

amc49 The battery won't explode. It will simply boil all the water out.

Depends on how much boiling, instant and spews acid is probably an internally shorted battery, THAT could explode. Instant means it comes out of the vents.

ALL batteries bubble a little bit in normal charging.

On these, if you are running a bad battery and continue trying to charge it up then you generally torch the alternator pretty quick, they don't like that at all. The diodes run hot and the solder points break. Or regulator fails, it's a race.

MEJY1988 Just to let you know, in case you don't know already, if you run the car to long with an over-charging situation, it can cause the battery to explode.

k thanks! car is locked in the shop, i guess theyll reopen tuesday. Last time i spoke to the guy he said he would pull the alt out for test so i guess hes headed in the right direction.

FLYLOW thanks sleepy for all the suggestions and thanks everyone

checked all the wires today, ripped off the flexible plastic cover on almost all the lines, none seemed damaged. checked all the fuses, fuse box and wires = nothing. the new alt is grounded correctly, took the pigtail out and cleaned it. also took the bat to ford yest under warranty. they said it was good just need charging. so they charged/reset it or whatever it is they do to it and car started this morning but same problems. now the instr cluster is all crazy. radio works, ac works, horn works.

also the bat water was boiling/bubbling after starting the car for like 20 seconds. took the caps off and water rushed out sprayed in my hands and face

maybe i was delivered the wrong alt?
