2000 Ford Focus 2.0 SOHC Engine FAIL

So hello there,
I have this car, right and let me tell you I've had it for about 2 years now. Since day one I have had to change just about everything on it except for the engine and the transmission. The engine has about 165k and it finally gave out on me yesterday now I'm thinking should I get it fixed or should I just sell it for parts? I talked with a shop and they told me that they would rebuild the engine for about $1400 but even when that is done I still have electrical problems on the car and it needs a paint job because the whole car is peeling. What do you guys think? How can I check if it needs to get rebuild or just some parts in the engine need to get changed out maybe just a valve i heard a lot of people talking about valve number 4 giving out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
